What to Watch for this week

Hopefully practices are not closed but I somehow had the impression they are.

One thing we won't see or talk about is the extreme hits by the defense during practice this year. Coaches have reduced the importance of smashing hits during practice (since Gregorak has left) because of injury and other reasons. Coaches want the players on both sides to save extra hard hits for game time.

A friend of mine attended the annual Gene Brosovich Golf Invitational and Celebrity Gala on July 28, and July 29, in Missoula where he met the coaches and bid on Griz auction stuff. Gene is from Butte, and is a Billings businessman.

He learned that the first scrimmage is Monday, Aug. 15 at 4:00 p.m. (which will be the 1st practice on the new turf inside Washington-Grizzly Stadium). The second scrimmage is on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 9:00 a.m. Both scrimmages are open to the public.

However the final scrimmage is scheduled for Aug. 25 at 3:00 p.m., and will be closed to the public as the Griz make final preps for the season opener on Sept. 3. The Great Grizzly encounter will take place later that night at Carass Park at 5:30 p.m., with the Griz taking the stage at 6:30 p.m..
