what the o-line needs: a healthy calhoun, and next year, better rbs

Was listening to ESPN radio today and Mark Schlereth. He was talking about how difficult it is for o linemen to get moved around a lot and still be expected to not miss a beat. He said it takes a whole season for even a pro to get used to all of the subleties that a new position demands in order to be consistently effective.

Lee had one carry and got -1 yard. Eastwood averages 4.6/carry.

I know that stat is correct, but it still shocks me. He always seems to run straight into the pile with next to no shiftiness, even though I know he must not if he's averaging 4.6.

Eastwood is a one cut and go type guy, Lee is shiftier. Calhoun was the best of the bunch but injuries etc have kept him off the field. A better back would help the oline out yes, but a great oline can make even an average back look good. Calhoun has stated he will not be redshirting this year. A better back is needed for sure as Eastwood is not a "Feature" type player. Unfortunately, the Hilliard, Humphrey, Reynolds type RB are hard to come by.

i was unaware Calhoun had said he will not red shirt....is that inside information or been around in the media etc....

It has been around in the media both coach Huack and Calhoun said earlier this year there were no plans to redshirt him. I believe it was Amie Just he made the comment too right before he left I know coach Huack said it during a press conference the week of the 17th.

That rumor never had legs. I'll just leave it at that.

Oh to only have another Chase Reynolds, Yo Humphrey or Dan Moore type RB again. Would take a RB like Chase over them all.
However it was fun to watch ol Dan Moore get rolling to. The leap over the App State player classic!

The leapover I recall was against MSU in Bozeman.

Lex cannot be left off the list.

Hauck’s biggest weakness is he plays his favorites, not the best. Until he can overcome his ego he will always be very good, but never great.

I would say that he plays the guys that he has confidence in.

Dan Moore, one of the most oft-injured Griz players ever

FIFY :D

Dan doesn’t have the career numbers & his style of play didn’t enhance his longevity. In 2012 his 245 combined yards were the difference between being competitive with App State and a blowout loss in McKinneys first start. Two weeks later he put up 148 against South Dakota all while trucking guys in kickoff coverage. & pretty much platooned with Nyguen & Canada from there on out. Both of them appear on the all-time rushing list.

Moore never took a play off & did everything asked of him while healthy. I could be wrong, but I don’t recall him being jailed or in anyones doghouse for any reason. & there was enough interest in his abilities that he was invited to an all-star game & wound up in an NFL camp for a look-see. Overrated? Dan Moore was a football player who left it all on the field & like a lot of guys here, I’ll always remember him fondly.

do you think eastwood is a great running back, or will become one? i don't. he looks to me like a few of the guys who stuck it out with the griz for four years, and were great teammates, but only saw the ball at the end of games, when the result had been determined long ago
I always suspected you knew nothing about football. This just cements it. PR is right; you’ve probably never even played flag football before.
Eastwood has been the lone bright spot on this O.
You’re probably one of those guys who think our receivers are the strongest unit on this O, too, amirite?

App State fans take:

Glad to see that the Griz should be back to their true form next year. Our JJ > their JJ. As long as Dan Moore isn't coming back I like our chances

I'm just glad Dan Moore is graduated. That guy was one of the best RB's I have ever seen. He was like Eric Breitenstein with an attitude.

Too bad he was so often injured.

Plenty of talent at receiver/tight end. Tough for them to do anything when Sneed doesn't have time to get them the ball or overthrows them when he does.

so eastwood is a great back, and the lone bright spot of the offense?

don't want to disparage the guy, but "great" isn't a term i'd use for his play, at least thus far.

Ordigger & I think alike - Bobby took this team over & ruined it. Jensen flew the coop & it's a fuc#ing tragedy that Calhoun got himself arrested, which allowed Bobby to play his guy, Eastwood, who is by far in inferior running back to Calhoun. Sneed is a good JUCO QB, but far too many turnovers when he's pressured. I realize Stitt left Bobby with an inexperienced OL & that has been a huge problem, but the amazing Bobby Hauck should've been able to a least produce better than a 4-4 record at this point in the season.

I do have great expectations for the future, but I have to ask what would our record be this year if Stitt was still the coach? I definitely think better than 4-4.
