OK I had the nerve, a another thread here, to claim most basketball people in the nation consider the Big Sky a "Low-Major" conference. I got %@# jumped pretty good, insisting that it was a Mid Major conference. The main arguemnt is that this past year our conference RPI was 17th and our rep (UM) in the NCAA's beat Nevada. While this is true if you look back over the past 10 years or so since the Idaho schools left you will find our RPI was between 21-24 for most (in not all) of the previuos year. Back when we had the Idaho teams and Reno it was very common to see the Big Sky Conference RPI between 16 to 19, but since than we have adopted to many new D-1 programs.
While this year was a good start to get us back to a Mid-Major catagory I think we will need to rattle off 3-4 more years at the 17th or so level before we will be looked at as a Mid Major Conference as a whole, what is your opinion?
