This has been a topic of interest so I looked around the league for answers.

Thanks Kyle. Getting perspective of other coaches in the league was very interesting. I would love to read a similar article with thoughts on our offense...

Awesome article Kyle, as usual. I'm sitting here wondering to myself..."did we not practice zone coverage in spring/fall?"

UM is giving up 14.83 per catch, 2d worst in the nation (Presbyterian). 68th in passing defense (229 yards per game).

Once again today (a game I was actually AT) I saw several plays where the defense wasn't ready, was looking to the sideline when the ball was snapped, were running around trying to change positions when the ball was snapped, or trying to swap out players with guys running on and off the field when the ball was snapped....

WTF? Is our defense THAT complex that it can't be called by the time the offense snaps the ball? I mean, UNC basically sat in a 3-man front, dropping 7-8 guys ALL. DAY. LONG. They didn't make a lot of adjustments, but they got to Chalich repeatedly with 3-4 rushers. How is it that ours is so complex that that we can't even be ready to play when the ball is snapped?

This is crazy this coaching staff is only 23 games in. Where is your perspective? Just busting your balls, a lot of people who have seen this team in person for the last 2 years have had a lot of concerns about how this team is coached in a lot of areas, but have mostly been shouted down.

Under Achieving STiTT recruits; Poor Schemes; Poor Preparation; Non-Motivated Young Men = Mediocrity

Montana’s Semorian defense: New DC Jason Semore turns heads with style and tactic

"The Men from Mines is a three-part series profiling three Montana coaches who came from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado: Defensive coordinator Jason Semore, pass game coordinator Nolan Swett and head coach Bob Stitt. The three dominated the Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and now shape the crucial aspects of Montana football that makes it so successful."

But if you make fun of Bozemans defensive coordinator, make any reference to this years defense being stronger than last years, or stand behind our head coach at all.....you get 75 jumping down your throat with his encyclopedia. But do these shit-for-brains mods do anything? F**** no.
Of course, the "problem" on that thread was that the "hype" about the RMAC was just that: hype, a press release written by journalists to appease their sources. And this was spoon-fed to a fan base that naturally wanted to believe it was true. There has been a terrific disconnect from reality on this coach transition; and as I have repeatedly noted, taking DII coaches -- including a perennial loser to Chadron State -- and thinking they would instantly transform into first class DI coaches having never recruited at that level, never coached that kind of talent at that level, never having coached against experienced, sophisticated DI coaches before, and never having dealt with a sophisticated and expectant fan base like this was a recipe for disaster.

Here it is.

Stitt played a role this. He could have tamped down expectations and prepared fans for a long haul. He didn't.

In that last couple of minutes, the game play announcers said "Montana's defense is in chaos," as players were running on and off the field during the snaps. In the EWU game, game play announcers wondered why Stitt wasn't substituting the QB.

When you've lost the play-by-play announcers, something is wrong.

Shoot. We are so hyped up we might be able to overcome the vaunted msu team next Saturday.

Perhaps we better not get over enthused...

Against several QBs that do not shine for accuracy.

It was same in the ISU game. It's getting no better.
