What I Desire For Griz Athletics

RoseyMustGo

Well-known member
Here are the changes within our athletic department which would make me positive again:

1) New head coaches in both football & BB
2) An organized and well-funded NIL program, to compete with other FCS schools already having one
3) Hiring of a non-coach FTE whose entire job is building strong relationships with FBS coaching staffs (including position coaches), so that these relationships might help in recruiting portal players. All FBS schools have multiple people doing this job, and a few of the FCS schools do also.

1) On the football side, barring outright disaster, I don’t see this happening
2) I would LOVE to see this. UM is missing the boat big time with this
3) This one intrigues me. I didn’t realize that this is a thing. This influence can theoretically channel players who may be entering the portal as well. Depending on circumstance, this could be akin to a relationship with a HS coach. RMG, can you explain this one further?

I’m not in the “Bobby Must Go” camp yet, but if things go sideways this season, that could change. I guess I’m in “wait and see” mode. The failure to recognize that Germer seems to be the weak link is not a mark in Bobby’s favor to me, but I’m not the boss. I am glad that Rosey was reassigned, but with Pease… again, I guess I’ll have to wait and see. Lots of question marks going into this season.

Germer isn't weak and isn't going anywhere. Minor reshuffling. Will you be excited if Phen is on the coaching staff?

Number 3 is an interesting idea for sure. I know power 5 schools have hired staff basically to scour the country and recruit potential FCS/G5 transfers. In addition, if they don't have scholarships to award, they have a pot of cash to award that is essentially equivalent to a scholarship...which relates to number 2 on your list.

Sure, i'll explain it, since you have chosen to discuss the current BUSINESS of college football today, and have the ability to think out of the box, unlike our current dinosaur coaches (and probably Haslam too).
I urge any fan who gives a sh*t about moving our football program into the year 2023, to Google any FBS Power 5 team web site, and drill-down to see the number of FTEs assigned to the recruiting process. You will be very surprised!
I'm sure you must have read about the Georgia O-lineman killed in the car accident, along with a young lady FROM THE GEORGIA RECRUITING STAFF. I understand 100% that Montana does not have the finances to even come close to duplicating what these FBS schools have as far as recruiting personnel. However, instead wasting money on "offensive analysts", like we did on hiring Phenicie, spend the money on one of these staffers. I guarantee it will be a more effective use of funds than on Phenicie.

Notice that many of these FBS recruiting staffers are attractive coeds??? Their job is to host visiting recruits when the come to Missoula. It's all about marketing. Yeah, showing recruits the stadium, and new athletic center is great, but proving a female hostess to guide them through their visit carries more weight with many of these recruits.

As to your comment of just re-assigning Pease to O-coordinator......... nothing will change on the offense. Rosey and Pease have been fired multiple times because their offenses were poor. Why do you think they are sudeenly good here? I know for a fact that many players dislike Pease's bombastic coaching style (it is so 1990s). Why will he be an improvement over last season? What may have worked with kids in the 90s doesn't work with these players today. They won't put-up with it, and just enter the portal.

Like the young pretty Georgia recruiting woman who drove her car into some power polls and trees at 2:45am and killed herself and a player? Judging by the size/type of vehicle, I wonder if it was her company car.

Hoops—where’s the new contract?

I’m fully aware that this is a reshuffle. That’s why I’m pretty tepid about it. To go to a fully new direction would be best, BUT there is always the off chance that some one pulls their head out. Who knows.

As for the rest, I’m not sure the student body would tolerate using student bodies to recruit like the big money schools. UM and Missoula has demonstrated in the past that they don’t tolerate perceived misogyny, especially from the football team. While it’s been a solid decade since Engstrom and Gwen deliberately trying to destroy the football program, I have no doubts that these SJWs would be frothing at the mouth if Hauck tried that.

I can see 1.0 FTE staff working the inter-collegiate relationship angle, but not the other thing.

I would categorically not be excited. Nor am I excited that Germer has been retained in any capacity. He seems to be good with individuals rather than being able to develop a whole unit. I understand there are linemen that attribute their individual success to him, but last I checked football is a team sport. If he can’t coach the line as a whole then he has no business doing what he is doing. Maybe he should create his own training clinic so that he can develop individuals.

I respect that you disagree with my assessment of Chad Germer. We’ve been around the block a few times with this, so I’m pretty sure I’m not going to sway you.
