I would say that most of us ("most of us" being UNI fans who have not attended MU games very much and have only been in the state a couple of times :) ) think that your problem with rape is due to an overly sexualized environment in the "zoo town" as well as a permissive attitude toward homosexuality. IMHO if y'all nip that stuff in the bud you'll see a national championship-quality team next year!

Don't know about you but I (Brad) am rooting for the righteous! go grizz!

Are you sure you are not a Liberty fan?

I see its ok to marginalize the right? Or was it a joke that just amazingly denigrates the right and I missed your sarcasm? Because, you know, many in my family are conservative and fought in Vietnam you piece of shit..... (Remember when you claimed to be unbiased?) hahaha

LOL, what?

Yeah I'm not offended but his thin-skin got a little cut in it when I made a sarcastic joke about Democrats a week ago. He stood on a soapbox to educate me about Democrats and war then claimed to be unbiased. I just thought I'd rib him for his sanctimonious diatribe again.

I'm sure I have made plenty of other posts where it would make more sense for you to go full retard on.

"Idiots out walking around"

Isn’t Panthera the dude that supposedly got the “deliverance treatment” on the bridge a few years back?

As a student at UM and a long time resident of Missoula, all of the media and rumors surrounding Missoula have been a big bummer.
Jim O'Day is one of the best guys around and was always looking out for the best in his students. His statement after the verdict was perfect. He believes in the kids and was doing everything he could to help them stay on track. Truly a stand up guy.
I think Robin would have had a bright future at Montana as well. It was tough to lose both of them'.
As for J.J., he is truly a great guy. He is nice and thoughtful and you could tell that this whole mess was something he would never even think about and it has clearly taken a toll on him and his family. I hope that he can start to rebuild is reputation but at least he knows that Griz Nation is behind him. I am not familiar with the accuser but there have been many not so PG rumors flying around Missoula. Granted they are just rumors but I hope she gets the counseling she needs and that this never becomes an issue again. There truly are no winners here and it is time for everyone to move on and focus on the future.
Montana is a great school filled with stand up students, athletes and faculty. That should be the focus, not the whirlwind of rumors.

I would think that, as of last week, UM is assuredly the safest campus in the USA for women. IN fact, I suspect this was a learning situation for every student at UM and as valuable as the degrees they will earn.

Read those 18 statements.

Recent reader.... Daughter is a freshmen...sent her from Idaho to Missoula to get a great education...was glad she chose UM...as a former Bengal athlete (long drought of success on the men's side of athletics to say the least) I'm happy she can enjoy cheering on successful and competitive teams (adds to the entire collegiate experience)... Getting back on topic...I asked her what students are saying and she told me not a lot of chatter...of course she has only her group of new friends to base this on, she is pretty observant. Thought I'd share what I found. Go Griz!

Welcome, GG!

Thanks for sending your daughter to UM. It's a great place. I promise she'll love it.

What's the general consensus with ISU'ians about the Big Human?

As a student, here's what my experience has been:

1. We all know that the University's name has been dragged through the mud from all of this. We fought it at first, then it became the norm and we accepted it, now we're just sick of hearing we go to "that school with all the rapes" (which by the way we don't believe but everyone else seems to think an allegation = the truth).

2. Regarding the JJ trial, the overwhelming amount of people I discussed it with believed he didn't knowingly commit a crime and would be acquitted. The victim has a bit of a shady past as far as relationships go, which didn't come out in the trial but many student's knew it. The problem is, I for one honestly believe in her mind she convinced herself she was truly raped, which makes this situation a lose-lose for everyone. I don't think she was vengeful, I do think she didn't get the psychological help she needed.

3. There was general outrage about the Pflugrad and O'day firings. Jim was VERY well respected around campus and Coach Pflu was seen as a much more likeable face of griz football from a student perspective in comparison to Hauck. Couple that with the success of his last year and Pflu was really winning the students over. And yes, even though President Engstrom never said their dismissals were directly related to the JJ allegation, we aren't stupid; we all knew it was.

4. Speaking of Engstrom, he's not viewed too favorably these days. The botching of the Saudi incident was essentially covered up by the football team's issues but everyone knows he royally screwed up there and many students felt he came down hard on JJ, Pflu, and O'day to make up for it. The University court's ruling on JJ's expulsion also felt unfair on the basis of lack of evidence at the time. I am one of many that felt it was a cowardly move to fire those under him to save his ass. The captain should have gone down with the ship rather than throwing his crew overboard.

5. Pat Williams' comments enraged many of us. The vast majority of UM athletes are stand-up kids. They do not relish the limelight that comes from being a Griz football player or any other type of student-athlete for that matter; they're just normal kids that happen to be good at sports. He went too far and judged a huge group on the actions of a few.

I am in a rare position in that I have the opportunity on campus to speak with many prospective students and their parents. Make no mistake about it, the fall in enrollment is directly related to the "scandal" surrounding the school. UM has some serious damage control to do moving forward, because right now many parents do not want to send their daughters to a school where they don't believe they will be safe from sexual assault. And no, they do not want to hear about how every other college has the same issues; their minds are pretty made up.

With all that being said, I am still damn proud to be a Griz. I wouldn't trade my time here for any other school in the nation, and I know that the majority of my classmates share that view as well. Jim O'day was quoted after the Johnson trial in saying "In some ways it's been a year of emotional hell... but I stand by my grounds. I believe in kids... they're going to make some mistakes but you stand by them." There are many faculty members at UM that share that view, and at the end of the day, that is why we are still proud to attend the University of Montana. The media can do their worst, we know the truth about our school.

Extremely articulate and well-composed summary of your thoughts BN32. To see a post such as this so thoughtfully and sharply constructed gives me a TON of faith and confidence in the calibre of young men and women we have enrolled as Grizzlies at our great University. Best to you and your fellow students in your years @ UM and here's to a terrific future in whatever career path you choose. It is clear to me that our current student body is representative of nothing but the finest quality of young scholars and athletes.

Best of forutunes bn32! :thumb:

What's the general consensus with ISU'ians about the Big Human?

Earlier this year my daughter stated, "my team beat your team"...I responded, "I have paid more to the U of M in her first semester than I did in my five years total while running for ISU, so your team is my team!"

Forgot to add that due to lack of interest in athletics by the ISU administration I've lost interest in the Bengals and the Big Human....gotta support where my daughter is attending!

Idaho, the state, gets hammered on quite a bit over here, but it sure is a hell of a lot better than our neighbors to the east. Except for that fuc*ing sales tax.
