What do FCS & FBS teams learn in playing up & down?

So, what did Washington learn about itself & UM learn about itself from that game? What did UM learn about itself in the Savannah State game? Leave the money out of this. UM lost in a blowout to UDub, & won in a blowout vs. SSU. I know these games get scheduled yrs in advance, but still.... Why can't FCS teams play against other FCS teams, & same for FBS?

Ok, UM makes some money from the UDub game. Is that all it is? Did SSU make money from playing UM? I don't think these kinds of games benefit either team in terms of testing itself vs. competition. Ok, finally beat up on someone else than each other in practices. Fine, but get more realistic, equal, OOC FCS competition.

Lest we forget that the SSU game resulted from the McNeese game falling through...but don't let that get in the way of your agenda.

I guess you don't realize that Savannah St is a FCS school. I am also watching Idaho St beating up on FBS Nevada currently.
Good for the Bengals! You didn't answer my question: What did these respective teams learn about themselves in these lop-sided wins & losses? Yes, there are FCS teams, and then there are other FCS teams.

Same w/ FBS. I'm sure ISU has learned a great deal about itself & Nevada has learned a great deal about itself in this first half. We all know that at the bottom of the FBS & top of the FCS, that FCS teams can beat FBS teams. What I'm talking about are blowout wins & losses, that are easily predictable as to outcomes.

Grizzoola, honest question. What is your background playing of coaching football?
No coaching experience. 1950-54, right guard, O & D at MT Class B HS. No face guard. No turf. As a UM alum w/ a BA & MA degree, I root for the Griz. But you also didn't answer my question.

So only two equally talented teams should play each other every week? Good luck with that.....

A detail many seem to keep forgetting. We were fortunate that the UM was able to book a replacement FCS team instead of a D2 school.

You can still use it in film study just like any other game. And from a player perspective, I am sure they would all have liked a better result, but will never forget getting that type of opportunity.

Hard to leave the money out of it when it's all about the money. [emoji383]

Ok. Good point. :thumb:

One thing you always hear but doesn't seem to bear out is injuries. Don't play up because a bunch of guys will get hurt and cost a team the rest of the season.

Game vs. UW...one sprained ankle.....

Game vs. Savannah State.....I think we know...

I think the risk of injury actually decreases against better teams and increases when you play weaker, less-disciplined teams. Better teams might be stronger and faster, but they execute better and aren't sloppy.

Injuries are injuries regardless of competition. There was nothing sloppy about the way Reese got hurt, just a very unfortunate injury on a routine tackle. Anytime you get get bodies flying around it can happen. Injuries happen in the pros all the time as well.

I know, but there's a misconception that playing up means you have a greater risk of more injuries.

Also, many of these kids come from the UW area....a very fertile recruiting ground for Griz football...letting them play in front of family and friends sends the message to FUTURE recruits as well....that's the "long play" in this...
