Weyer Out for Season

Sorry if this has been posted somewhere else, but just saw on Twitter Weyer has a torn ACL and had surgery. Out for the season per AJ Mazzolini.

Bummer. While it was known he had torn his ACL, I had heard that he was going to delay surgery and see if he could brace it up and play during the conference season. I'm sure he and family are sick. Not a good way to start, and end, your senior season. Ask Selle. At least, he got a few games in. But life goes on. There are many things far more important than football, and he can get on to them. I'm sure he will be a big success in life. He was a terrific player, and will be sorely missed.

Yeah, kind of figured when he came out on crutches for the Cal Poly game, and he wasn't on crutches the week before. Tough break.

Don't think he would qualify for a redshirt. He already used his redshirt year as a true freshman and to qualify for a medical year, he either has to not have used his redshirt or missed majority of two years due to injury. He will be a senior next year. One to play one.

Just a rotten shame. Best of luck in rehabbing and returning to whatever you most want to do.

PR, Weyer is only a RS-Jr. If he wants a medical RS, he can now play two more years for the Griz.

Great. My mistake. Thought he was a senior. Still a bummer, but at least he has another year. Thx.

Hasn't anybody who has used a redshirt gotten an additional year of eligibility due to a medical issue? If nothing else, at least we do have him for one more year.

I've filled out quite a few medical redshirt forms for players (Medical Hardship Waiver is the NCAA term). Technically they are able to file for a medical hardship waiver with 1 missed season, even if already redshirted. there is a lot of paperwork for this. need documentation that it's an incapacitating injury and that they haven't participated in a certain percentage of games (although they break it down by quarter actually when calculating the percentage I believe). Now just because they are able to apply, even with this type of injury, doesn't mean they will get the medical waiver. Many times they will address the pervious redshirt as to why denial. Again, there are logistics to this crap but if he wants to play 2 years, there's a pretty good chance he could. many times they do the work the following year, but there are deadlines of course and I know nothing about the NCAA mandated deadlines. I just see the kids and say yea or nay on the type of injury they have.

It's possible. NDSU had a 6th year receiver. I'm just not sure if the injury has to take place in a players 5th season of eligibility in order for them to get a 6th year of eligibility.

It does not.
