West Florida added to the 2027 schedule

100% agree. Giving the Griz program exposure in Florida is a good thing.
During my few years living in the south I met several knowledgeable football fans. A lot of them would immediately recognize any EWU gear I'm wearing and even knew a few things beyond the obvious red turf.

Definitely good to get exposure in a region where football is literally a religion lol.

So you never visited Alabama then?

We are not getting recruits from Florida. Missoula is to far away for families to visit. There are MANY places a recruit could go a lot closer than Montana.

Yes, the University of Montana football team does occasionally pull recruits and transfers from Florida, though it is far from their primary pipeline.

While the Grizzlies strictly build their roster around a heavy foundation of in-state Montana talent and well-established out-of-state pipelines like California, Texas, Washington, and Oregon, they will strategically target Florida for specific players.

Recent roster additions show a handful of notable Florida ties, particularly via the transfer portal and prep academies:

  • Drew Price (QB): A true freshman quarterback out of Ponte Vedra High School in Jacksonville, Florida.
  • Hayden Schwartz (DL): A defensive lineman from Jacksonville, Florida (The Bolles School), who joined the Griz as a transfer from Minnesota.
  • Weston Adams (WR): While originally from Wyoming, he played his high school football at the powerhouse IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, before transferring to Montana from Illinois.
So while you won't see Bobby Hauck and his staff doing a massive sweep of the Sunshine State on a regular basis, they will absolutely pull high-quality talent out of Florida when the fit is right.” Gemini.

UM gets some recruits from Georgia and Tennessee too.

Aw, your damn right they did, kid. Are the football fans in the south who recognize EWU apparel in the room with us now?

Disagree. If North Dakota South Dakota and Minnesota can get kids to come to their state, so can Montana. It’s a matter of time before UM has Florida kids on their roster.

Yes of course you are right. That is way too far. We should not recruit there, and we definitely shouldn't recruit Hawaii because that's even farther away! We would never be able to get anybody from Hawaii to come ALL the way to Montana. Wait a minute...
