Tradition and "symbolism" are wonderful things, but a "stein" is made to hold beer ... preferably good beer. The players can't indulge (most of them), but surely the coach and prez should get a victory slurp?!

I'm a little worried it's a solid piece of wood to look like a stein. Then it would be "little brown log".

Then I say "screw it!" Throw that log on the fire and let's go with a real stein. One of these would do:

I traveled to Germany a lot in my career and I collected a lot of German steins. They are all ceramic with pewter hinged lids. Ornamental. Drank a lot of beer out of those large Hofbrau House mugs.
