Week 3 Scouting Report

Get to watch NDSU play Iowa and UNI at EWU. Would rather see the Griz play, but it's nice to have great match-ups on the bye week.

Griz get a bye before Cal Poly, last year they had all fall to game plan us.

If Bison beat Iowa all other FCS teams are in race for the two seed in playoffs to avoid having to play NDSU at home.

What's up with the spiders? I have a sister in Richmond, nobody there is aware of their existance, they know JMU and they thought the Spiders were a high school.

Could be an exciting weekend in a lot of ways. At the FCS level, having #10 Northern Iowa at #8 EWU is right up there.

We also have #17 Coastal Carolina at #4 Jacksonville State, which should be a good game. Of course, Coastal is “in limbo” -- considered an Independent and not eligible for anything, but the football should be pretty good.

We also have four ranked FCS teams facing FBS opponents this weekend, plus one other that might be of interest.

I wonder if even fanatical NDSU fans think they can make a game of it at Iowa (ranked #13 in FBS polls). Iowa strikes me more as a “pound the rock” team, although they do have one hot receiver, so NDSU may be able to avoid a blowout.

North Carolina A&T (#18 FCS) versus Tulsa is a puzzle, since NCAT has sort of come out of nowhere. Tulsas scored points against SJSU, but that looked more like the Spartans being inept than Tulsa being really good. Then Tulsa got pounded by Ohio State (no surprise there). So who knows?

North Carolina is no powerhouse, but they are a pretty decent FBC team. Still, not out of the question that James Madison makes them hustle.

Washington looks like a tolerable #8 FBS (pounded Rutgers and Idaho … so perhaps over-ranked). Portland State may be in for a long evening.

Eastern Kentucky is not ranked in the FCS, but they did get quite a few points in today's poll and do look to be reasonably strong. Ball State (1-1) has not been impressive, so this could be a possibility.

It should be a fun Saturday of football; no matter who the Griz are facing, I carry a lot of anxiety throughout the week, so it will be sort of a weekend off for me...yet I expect a typical session -- watching college football from about 10 am to midnight.

Also, Cal Poly @ South Dakota State, 5 PM on ESPN3.
That should be a good one. If CP can manage to knock off the Jacks, and we beat them the following week, it could potentially do a lot for our playoff/seed resume down the road. Of course that's assuming CP doesn't completely collapse down the stretch again.

Sounds like fans need bye as much as the team. Watching Griz on TV two weeks in row may be too much stress. Not as much stress at Washington Griz stadium, always have company to cheer with and to blow off steam with.

A weekend to see competion play without emotional attatchment.

Great feeling being 2-0. No matter what the outcome, Griz will have a winning record next home game.

2008 FCS national champs as it is so painful to recall.

IS the EWU v UNI game on ESPN3 or watch big sky or anything like that? I'd like to watch that one.

Couldn't find it anywhere but on SWX yet. They do have an App to watch things but I assume you have to be a subscriber.

Sometimes ESPN3 will list them later in the week

That's weird. Considering Richmond has won a football national championship while JMU hasn't.

 2004, I have no excuse for not remembering, I just don't. I only ever remember the semifinal with them.
