Weber vs BYU

Saturday Big Sky Basketball....

Cats got Annihilated 84-55 at home against Cal State Fullerton (who was 6-12 in the Big West last year). Cats shot 2-20 from 3 point range (10%) and only 34% over all. CSF shot 53.6% over all and 50% from 3 point range. Not a good start of the season for the cats...

NAU tied 8-8 early in the game at University of Texas San Antonio. ISU plays Evergreen State later. Hopefully NAU will come away with a win. Hate seeing Big Sky teams lose in non-conference to mediocre/bad opponents. Kind of have a bad feeling NAU will drop this game though. No Russell likely means no offense for them.

NAU pulled out the victory 74-63

Every year I think msu might be able to put the pieces together and be relevant. I know it is one game but, ugh. Being a MT guy, part of me roots for Huse, but I have no idea how he keeps his job.

Congrats NAU! I thought they'd really get off to a rough start losing Russell the way they did, so to get a win on the road to begin the season like that is a happy surprise.

I agree with you on Huse. No idea how he's still there and got a contract extension. I'd love to see the Cats turn their program around, but under Huse I just don't see it happening. Would be neat though to see the Griz and the Cats consistently at the top of the Big Sky.

MSU right now is one of those teams where if you look at many of their recruits you think "Wow, this team could do some damage!" Then you watch their offense play under Huse and you think "Wow, I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty spoon than watch this..."

Seriously, if you get the chance watch them sometime on Bigsky TV. It's almost painful to watch, especially when you know they have enough talent to be a lot better.

Their attendance will likely suffer again this year if they keep heading down this same path. Huse brought them below 3000 fans per game for the first time since 1978 the year before last year. They drew on average 2922 (down from 3228 the previous year)... Last year they drew 2523 down from 2922... Not a good sign.

That attendance number is startling. Down 700 per game in the last two years.

Figure 700 x 15 games gives you roughly 10,500 less total tickets sold as compared to two years ago. Some of those are students that don't really pay and I am sure some are season ticket holders not showing up, but there is still going to be a really big number of tickets msu just has not sold. Not sure what the average ticket price would be on the lost sales but it doesn't take long to add up to a very large sum of money.

Forgetting the results, one would think the lost revenue would have been enough for them to not extend his contract.
