Weber State Wildcats Scouting Report

Reading this scouting report....and I don’t like this matchup at all. Unless Gresch goes off for a huge day I don’t see us staying in this one. Weber has all the weapons that we seem to be inept at containing.

They pose threats in the kick and punt return game.

The have weapons in the passing game.

A running back that can hurt you.

Aaaaand a stingy defense.

We are going to have to see defense and special teams play their best game yet this season. I’m guessing we get housed, 38-24. And the statistics tell an even uglier story.

Finished this up last night and was feeling good, obviously as I posted a Griz winning prediction. Slept on it, thought more about it, read some more, saw some film. My confidence isn't close to what it was last night. I'm not going to change my prediction but seriously every hour that goes by... I feel more and more like Weber should win this. It's not that I don't think the Griz will be ready... but I think we've got some real matchup issues, especially without #5.

i'm more troubled by playing at their place than the match ups....i think the match ups negate themselves however we do not play well there lots of times, even when we win.

Ya. Put it this way. There's a tiny chance the griz could go in and blow them out. There's a much greater chance the griz GET blown out. I have this as a two TD win for Weber.
Your argument makes zero sense with even less analysis. But we are in agreement.

If Semore can adjust for a new safety, and can find a way to stop the run while not getting burned by their TE or outside threat...then I think we win by 2 touchdowns. I just don’t think that’s going to happen. Semore seems to only know how to trot out a good defense when everything goes as he expected and gameplanned for. Anything outside of that absolutely paralyzes the defense.

I don't really need a bunch of analysis because I've seen both teams play. I think your offense shines against shitty defenses but struggles against good defenses and Weber has a great defense.

So once? To a top tier FBS team?

Yep. UW was the only great defense you've played against from my perspective. In fact I don't know that you've played against even good defenses other than them. Weber has a great defense. NAU and MSU have good or great defenses.

Like number 87. Bottom line is try to win on 1st down on defense and have a better down and distance on 3rd. It seems evident that weber wants it’s tight end on a safety and will throw short to the rb out of the backfield if necessary. We HAVE to get off the field on 3rd down. Watching weber and Montana my take is a close game with the winner being the team with an extra turnover and who ever wins on special teams. We spot them 3 for home field. 35-31 Montana.

We can win this game. But if we do it will be a big upset in my mind. There is a reason they play the game.

I feel like we will do a lot better than people think against weber. We will have two weeks of preparation and will be really healthy. I think the griz offense can score points on pretty much any defense in the fcs I know we haven't faced many good teams yet but this will be the griz time to shine and I think they will.

I think what we have going, though, is they've seen this offense in real game speed only once...2 years ago...and not with the players we have on offense. Also the bye week helps. I think athletically the Griz match up very favorably, it's the coaching/matchups/adjustments that will be the difference. The Griz can win this if: win turnover battle, limit QB running, good tackling, execution on offense. It will take a complete game in all 3 phases.
I think weebs wins if: they win the turnover battle, they can exploit the defensive backs, they win first down on both sides of the ball

I don't like how this looks, but picked the Griz to win in the other thread. Let's go boys!

NAU and MSU have good or great defenses.

You never had credibility over here, though with this statement you officially have none. MSU may have one "great" defensive player, a couple of "fair" ones, and multiple questionable players. As a whole MSU has an improved yet still very mediocre defensive unit.

Versus any team with a passing game the bobcat MO has been to play a prevent defense for the entire game. Consequently the cats avoid too many 75 yard gains while regularly giving up the 20 to 30 yard pass play (typically on 3rd down).

I expect Weber's defense will be one of the best the Grizzlies have faced this year. None the less, if our QB is 'on' and the O line gives him any time we will move the ball well. I don't expect a 40 pt outing but believe we can hang four touchdowns on them. That should be enough. :ugeek:

Defense and special teams need to play lights out. And both units have largely been hot garbage all season. I just don’t see both pulling it together.

This game could end up putting a few nails in coffin(s).

Yeah he's also changed his tune quite a bit from "absolutely no way the Griz go Ogden and get a win. Just not going to happen."

I don't have an issue with fans being bearish on their team, but c'mon man. I'm ready to a grab straight razor here.

eeyoreraincloud.png
Just being realistic here...I’m not predicting we get blown out 50-3 or something. A 14 point loss is within the realm of possibility.

They control the ball, have weapons on the outside, and make plays on special teams. We give up 300+ through the air per game, and our special teams have been sketchy as hell. And we don’t have Justin Strong.

This is not a good matchup for us, looking at the way we’ve played defense and ST.

I'll take the Griz +14 for any amount you're willing to wager. Any amount. Name it. PLEASE...

I think the CATS have a pretty good defense. We're pretty banged up and playing a bunch of 18 year old kids that make some mistakes here and there but TG has these guys fighting hard and scrapping, and I think the schemes are good. We're 3rd in the Big Sky in scoring defense and I believe we've held every team we've played to below their scoring average, some if them significantly below. That's good enough for me at this point. The next few games will be very telling for CATS and griz. Also, no I haven't changed my tune on my prediction for this game. I predict the griz will lose and I don't think I ever said "Absolutely zero chance" of the griz winning because this is the Big Sky. My gut feel is a 14 point Weber win but I'm not betting anything on that.

Can't believe the pessimism on this board about this game. We beat WSU easier than we did ISU. Is there starting QB even playing Saturday?

I hope Strahm and Epperly take someones head off! Griz need to power up! Shaw and Simms need sacks! I hope Sandry is healed, we are going to need him.

Do we know if Weber's defense is really that good? I mean, take a look at who've they played. Not exactly a murderer's row of offensive powerhouses. Exchange Eastern, ISU, NAU and Montana for those four conference games and I think we're all singing a different tune. Of course, they could prove me wrong (and I do believe their defense is pretty good), but I think we'll be able to score.

Yes Cantwell will start.

And I fail to see how beating a team with the #1 overall defense would be easier than beating the team with the #12 overall defense. And by the way, you beat that #12 defense by 8 points...

Now I am in no way saying Weber will win, there is a good chance they wont, but Idaho State is no Weber State, and hasn't been for 30 years. Since 1985 Weber is 28-2 against ISU.

And do we know if Montana's offense is really that good? Who, outside of the Washington Huskies has Montana played that even plays defense? In their conference games Montana has played the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th overall defenses in the Big Sky. Replace those with any of the top 5 in Big Sky defenses and we might be singing a different tune...

Nope.

I've had the GFriz losing this game since the schedule came out, and I've had them rebounding to beat NAU the next week. I'm not changing now.
