Weber State in game thread

Many of the fans were there to watch their adorables, so the 5500 count might be artificial in terms of hollering. The crowd did make some good noise at critical times. It's hard to get worked up for Weber this year and much of the rowdy students are at home.

True's summary is pretty much what I saw. I thought the refs let a lot of Strait beating go on underneath. The crowds are getting bigger as compared to previous years. Virgil was awesome tonight. We have two 6'2"ish senior guards who can flat out rebound. We will miss these guys next year. The GRIZ 3 point shooting is still off. Virgil and Kevin hit 5 between them. None for Dlouhy or Martin (although Martin played sparingly). Mike Chavez also his a 3. Bryan Ellis had another solid game at the point. He is flat out quick and can really handle the ball. Dlouhy did a nice job on defense as usual. In the post-game interview, Krysko said the GRIZ only have 11 healthy players right now. Van Vliet was in street clothes. Neither Mayes or Swift played. I'm not sure who the other injured player is.

Question for those who have paid a little more attention to the rest of the league, should this be of concern that the Griz have not played to their potential in their first two conference games?

No this is perfect, less pressure on the road because sometimes you do not win on the road and leaves Lots of room for improvement. My only concern is how is Martin going to respond to (6 min of playing time in mop up). Started all of the non conference games, 3rd in scoring 10.3 and MT needs outside shooting (to get the collapsed zone off of Strait. Martin shoots a nice free throw to hold off a team in the last 5 minutes.

I think it was in the paper that Coach K said he started Dlouhy instead of Martin because of defense. And, there's no doubt, Dlouhy is fun to watch on defense -- he is ON all the time.

Not at all, anyone who thinks the Griz are gonna run the table are nuts. There are some pretty strong home court advantages in this league. Sac and EWU play in cracker boxes where the fans are on your ass. SAC's pep band sticks their horns right into your huddle during timeouts. At NAU you get no lift from crowd either way because there is no crowd, they play up that 7000' altitude to the hilt, although with our depth should be a non issue. msu speaks for itself.

We needed Dlouhy to guard Coric Riggs and Riggs was something like 4-14 last I checked. He is a black-hole and will shoot no matter who is guarding him. Luckily it was Dlouhy or that guy can go for 20+ in a hurry. Martin is also was getting a lesson that if he doesn't play good defense, he'll sit. Krysko sent a big-time message to a starter and we still won. Hopefully we'll see some inspired play out of Martin and maybe even a little Defense from him. Krysko sees the big picture. I am hoping he delivers a similar message /benching to Hasquet, who was getting out-rebounded by guys 8 inches shorter than him.

Everyone got so excited about our 11-2 record and assumes we are a finished product and are gonna roll through the Conference, but we got a long ways to go. We look good every game at times, but rarely for an entire game. We can't afford slow starts and poor defense and lackadasical rebounding, or it's gonna catch up to us in a hurry. We have loads of talent, but other teams are fired-up to play us now and are out-working us quite often.
