I was 10 years old and well on my way to Die-hard Griz Fan when this happened. Loved your post BTW. :thumb:

My old man went to his grave thinking Montana got screwed in that game because of goal tending. I remember it was not a happy day in our house.

Now I'm gonna have to ask my parents. I remember some huge controversy and my whole family thinking we got screwed, but couldn't remember what. Thanks for the memory jog! :thumb:

Sea-Griz, I believe it was a non-call of UCLA goal tending in the final seconds. I was awful young and that was a long time ago so I'm questioning my own memory. Please let us know what your folks remember.
I remember watching that game on tv. Montana got screwed on a couple blocking call that should have been called offensive fouls late in the game to turn the game in UCLA's favor. Totally bull crap.

Thanks P-burg! Be nice to find a tape of that game to watch but it was before vcrs were commonly available.

I know the tape/video exists. You used to be able to order it off the NCAA video site. In the last few years they pawned that service off on Amazon, here:

http://www.amazon.com/b/?node=332040011

But I have not been able to find it, amongst other videos that used to be available. Anyway, if memory serves, they charge a LOT of money for it, too. Something like $70 to $90 per disk.

NAU has had a number of decent announcers over the years (I was actually good friends with one, and we would go out when he came to Msla), because they don't stay at NAU long. They put in a year or 2 in Flagstaff purgatory in order to move up the ladder to a better school/gig. The guy I knew moved on to Cal-Irvine after NAU. No one dreams of being the Lumberjacks announcer for life.

The Chicago White Sox announcer Hawk Harrelson

NAU's announcer, Mitch Strohman, is complimented by opposing Big Sky team fanbases for being fair/objective in his analysis while still showing excitement for NAU. He's been the voice of the Lumberjacks for 8 straight years and 13 years overall. He does radio and tv broadcasts of NAU football, mens hoops, womens hoops, soccer and volleyball games for Fox Sports, am radio and NAU online tv. He has two programs he does for NAU tv (a cooking show and The Score). He has a radio show on Flagstaff AM radio with another guy that mostly focuses on politics and is often seen with guest spots on Arizona PBS. The possibility to leave for something bigger always exists but he sounds pretty entrenched in Flagstaff/NAU to me.

Hawk Harrelson is beyond a homer. Grandpa Crankypants over @ Weber State has nothing on Hawk.

Thanks for the info PR!

Well I guess when you are objective and call it as it really is, as in calling a "choke job" a "choke job", you get suspended. No wonder they're all homers.

2 games for calling something a "choke job"??? Geez.

Granted, probably not the best idea for the home team's PBP guy to do that while interviewing the head coach after a tough defeat. But still....

That's damn funny considering Sac State's announcer makes sarcastic comments like, "Well this is Sac State basketball after all...", when Sac State blows a big lead or makes a particularly inept play. I personally find it hilarious, but would probably feel differently if I was a Sac State fan.
