Weber Beats UNI - has minus 1 yard in 2nd half

Pretty crazy stat! Weber jumper out to a 20-3 lead after first Q thanks to a UNI fumble and then an interception. They held a halftime lead of 27-10. They literally put up no yards in the 2nd half and still held on for 29-17 win (got a safety).

I’ve never seen a stat like that. Pretty crazy really. Even more impressive they beat a high ranked team doing that.

Which says a lot about "conventional wisdom" (so-called). "Schemes," formations, etc. are the icing on the cake. Given a reasonable parity in athletic ability and conditioning, in the end it's all about fundamentals and (especially) execution. Granted, "fundamentals" have changed ... "targeting" and other safety provisions have made people think more about how they tackle, just as new rules disallow certain blocking approaches. But execution trumps all of that: crisp blocking and sure tackling (within the new rules). Hell, with the right athletes, you could probably run the single wing successfully. (Good luck with trying to recruit athletes into that system, however :lol: .)

Here are the JLM Punt Coverage Rules (tm):

1. Kick it high and short, so it has to be fair-caught, or;
2. Rugby kick it low and bouncing, or;
3. Kick it out of bounds, or;
4. Put your studs on D on the punt coverage team, and pray, or;
5. Kick it so JLM is looking right into the sun (like the one opportunity he had against UC Davis, which he dropped and recovered), or;
6. Pay the price and be made to look silly in the process.
