WBB vs. EWU Thread

Sorry to create a new thread, but it's nice to start out fresh.

It's the end of the 1st quarter and the women are looking pretty good. Hope they can keep it up because it's a winnable game if they do!

Really strong start to the second quarter: up 33-17 and forced an EWU timeout.

Gfeller has been superb down low, Lady Griz have been protecting the ball, finding the open player, and knocking down threes.

63.6% shooting, 33% for 3-pointers so far for game percentage with 7:40 remaining in the 2nd period.

LGriz up 33 - 17 at a timeout in 2nd

Libby Stump is really, really good.

Future Big Sky POY potential IMO.

When she and Konig are in, it seems to me like the offense runs pretty smoothly.

Their shooting percentage is looking really good at halftime - good thing because EWU looks pretty good too.

Lady Griz win 81-70!

It was a great competitive game! Seems like the women are turning the corner on the FG%s -- can't imagine how hard that is with all the pressure.

Overall, a very solid win for the Lady Griz against a solid Eastern Washington team.

Burton-Oliver, Gfeller, Stump, Marxen, and Konig all in double figures. Emergence of Burton-Oliver and the return of Gfeller has given the Lady Griz a pair of interior scoring threats that probably would have won them a couple additional games early in the season.

Idaho and Idaho State with upset wins over Montana State and Northern Arizona. Idaho will be a tough matchup for the Lady Griz.

Stump and Konig are so poised. They play like they e been in the league for a few years. Very excited to watch their careers play out!

A great win for sure. One player who is not getting enough accolades for this win is Dani Bartsch with a total of 11 rebounds in just 21 minutes of action. 10 of the 11 were defensive rebounds and that effort was no doubt a big difference maker. Defense is the key to big wins according to Holsinger and the rebounding was key.

For sure. She hustles as hard as anyone on the team! The future is bright for this group!

An enthusiastic +1 regarding Dani. She has exceptional defensive skills and defensive vision and rebounding. Not so evident last night was her ability to intercept passes from her D position and/or knock passes down. I also believe she has a kind of "undiscovered" offensive talent, which she briefly displayed last season. She's the kind of player who might respond well to the coaches developing a mid-key play just for her with the requirement that she shoot the ball instead of hesitate and look to pass to another player. Really like the way this team is developing in several areas.

Worth noting that despite playing just 19.1 MPG, Bartsch leads the team in rebounds and steals per game.

Unfortunately she's struggling a bit on the offensive end this year (her FG% has dropped from 51% to 32%), but she's made a difference on the defensive end which has earned her minutes. She's got a really high ceiling with her athleticism at 6'2".

This team is looking very good aren't they! Lot's of new folks, much better speed, quickness and ball movement. Trail by fire for the frosh group, you can see the enthusiasm and talent, but also some errors of defense, and passing at times. Pulling it all together, they could be explosive!! Fun to watch, Go LGriz!!
