Wayne is now under contract till the end of the 2011-12 season.

Just horrible. So Tinkle will fail, and one of his "montana Boy" assistant coaches will step undeservingly into the next HC job. Prepare yourselves for a long road of mediocrity.

Prepare myself? I have been prepard for a that couple of years now. Seriously the BB program is a joke. And people sit around and make excuse after excuse for the program. Fact is that UofM Basketball probably isn't even in the top 3 in college basketball programs in MONTANA. Its sad that they were on the verge of becoming a good program and one man was able to torpedo that hope all on his own. And then they sign him up for some more.

It's just sad. I've never heard of anyone this bad get an extension. 99% of the schools out there would have canned him after last year. This guy has no coaching potential, but I'm sure O'Day is running around with a 1980's Tinkle jersey on.

No, not a good start, but then again losing 90-69 to Boise State wasn't a good start to the 2005-2006 season either, and things turned out OK that year... Lets look at some other teams who are struggling early on...

Montana State 1-2
Idaho State 1-3
Weber State 1-3
Northern Arizona 1-4
Northern Colorado 0-2
Sacramento State 0-4

Gee..that seems to be most of the Big Sky.... the only two teams in the Big Sky with better records than the Griz right now are PSU and EWU. EWU's wins are against Puget Sound, Carroll, and UC Irvine.

I'm amazed how many people are already assuming this season will be horrible. Krysko's last year, we started out the season with our first Div 1 game being a 90-69 beating where we lost to Boise State. That season turned out OK :)

The season is barely under way, and we have a lot of new players. I think it's a little early to be assuming the season is going to be a bad one.

Hm.. you appear to be right..which makes me wonder, what the hell was I looking at?! I guess the caffeine hadn't kicked in yet. EWU played:

11/14/2008 at Illinois Champaign, Ill. L 50-66
11/19/2008 at UC Irvine Irvine, Calif. W 74-69
11/22/2008 Texas-Arlington Cheney, Wash. W 73-70
11/24/2008 Idaho Cheney, Wash. W 69-59

So not quite as bad as I thought. The Carroll game was an exhibition game so it doesn't show up on espn.com.

Anyway, my blurry eyed interpretation of their record aside, it's still too early in the season to be giving up on the Griz :)

Tinkle would not be a good junior high head coach. You are eight head coaching material or you are not. He is not. LK was and is a good head coach. You can't teach what Larry has, and WT can't learn it!

It's a no-brainer.

Our basketball program has nearly the highest student athlete grade-point average in the nation.

We offer competitive Montana high school graduates a great opportunity to compete in Division I intercollegiate athletics.

Most programs would give a piece of their anatomies to be able to say the same about their commitment to home state kids and to academic excellence.

We're lucky to get this commitment nailed down.

Winning is gravy, or icing on the cake, after the most important priorities are handled first.

Keep it up, coach(es).

Struggling to beat UM-Western is better than almost losing to the University of Great Falls. Just sayin.

Coaches are supposed to win. Grade school coaches are supposed to teach good citizenship, tinkle has had no success at any level, even grade school. Cronie with cronies looking out for him. Joke!!!!!

Sadly, there will always be a few wannabe's -- the lonely souls who never were, but so badly want to be. This includes the ineptly unqualified morons who pretend to know basketball and who take annonymous cheap shots at coaches from the cheap seats. If you're going to call out players or coaches by name, why not put a name and a face on yourself? I think we all know the answer.

some are taking cheap shots others are pointing out the facts as is with the current state of affairs but, by calling people morons isn't really seperating yourself from those you think are being out of line.

Sugar Bear, what "people" have I called morons? I've only used the term "moron" to refer to anonymous cheap shot artists in the cheap seats who are calling out real people (by name). If I were going to identify coaches or players by name, and call for their jobs or criticize their play, I wouldn't be a coward and hide behind a fake name like "Robomomo." I support our program and our people. I'm not going after "people." If you wanna be a tough guy and go after real people (like coaches and players), at least be a frickin' man and put a name on your face. See the difference? It's a clear separation.

Show me on instance I've ragged on a player. Show me one other person who uses their legal name. What's your real name? I was at the games when Blaine Taylor was coaching, saw the loss against Eric Dampier's 25th ranked Mississippi State team, nailed a member of the dance team, played at the rec center with Ryan Dick, Kempfert. Smoked J's with Camel. I have great memories about this team and hate to see it's potential f-d up by one man who does not deserve the shot he was given. Larry left the foundation of something special and Wayne has taken this program back 30 years.

Nobody said you ragged on a player. The assertion was, if you're "tough guy" enough or "genious" enough to publicly call out players OR COACHES by name, why not fess up your own name?

By that admission you really slapped Taylor in the face. I guess having players on the GRIZ smoking J's was a good thing for the program? Big deal you nailed a dance member. Once again things we would not rather know. The ironic thing is if you knew a member or the current GRIZ under Tinkle were smoking J's you would be firing more cheapshots at Tinkle. So does this mean you hold Tinkle to a higher level than Taylor? Griz smoking J's is not a very good reflection on any program. You just lost all credibility with me now. No wonder you do not like Tinkle, he only recruits character kids not characters.
