Wayne Estes: A Hero's Legacy is a book about the life of fromer USU basketball player from Ananconda. It was being discussed a few days ago on the USU board. I will try to post the link. If anyone is interested in purchasing the book, let me know and I will direct you to the guy on the USU board who is selling them.

I was just a kid (7) when Wayne died, however I do remember the funeral procession in Anaconda and the shrine that used to be in the Marcus Daly Hotel. I would recommend the book for any young student athlete as it stresses the desire and dedication needed to compete at a high level. In addition, Sportsmanship and how to relate to the public. Also is anyone is interested this is a great tournament:

I go to church with a guy that knew Wayne Estes growing up. He told me basically the same thing. That neither UM or MSU showed much interest in Wayne. Only USU's LaDell Anderson offered him a scholarship. I saw about 6 or 8 months ago on the Griz athletic site that Estes still holds the most points scored in a game at the Adams Center.

I lived in Anaconda til I was ten so Estes is a legend in my eyes as well....from what I heard Wayne was a classy guy......I would have to believe it as well....his brother Ron was a little league coach in Phillipsburgh and his guys would beat the hell out of my little league team in Anaconda but did it ina classy way....must run in the family

i am from Anaconda too and Wayne Estes is an absolute legend in that town. He was supposed to be the #2 pick in the nba draft by the Lakers before he was killed. of course the only strike against the guy is that he dated Judy Martz.

Here is a link to one of the USU fan sites that has information on the Wayne Estes book. You will see the link on your left after you open this page.

Dated her (Martz) they were engaged!! Can you imagine their kids if those two hooked up? A Dynasty in the making!! His story and impact on basketball is amazing and growing up around Anaconda you could not know Wayne's story.

Good article today about Wayne - his birthday today. http://www.mtstandard.com/articles/2005/02/08/sportssemipro/hjjejhjbjbgbff.txt
