Watching the Lady Griz

Lady Griz are very poor on the offensive end and struggle to score without Baker. Lady Cats are the better team, just as good defensively and a better shooting team.
After just watching those two teams, I would not be that far out on a limb to say the best women's college team in Montana is MSU-Billings.

Ugly might not be the correct word to describe what I just viewed. Not sure where the positive is...rebounding maybe?

The positive is that John Stockton got to see his daughter play. Also this is more proof that you should never wear throw back unis.

Yeah, because the uniform determines the outcome of the game.

You are right. Terrible shooting and poor rotation lose you games. I have a feeling you will all be happier after tonights game.

Box....thanks for pointing out that they are the top 2 teams in the Big Sky. Very impressive conference.

I was not suggesting they were good or bad...just that they are the best the BSC has to offer

At least the Lady Griz have the cats beat in the looks department, there are some lookers on the lady Griz... That officiating was horrific, kind of a painful game to watch. Katie Baker is a baller though.

Felt that the Cats bench got more production/points 16 to Griz 3 points (could be off on stats a little) and made their free throws. Lady Griz gave this game away in my mind, they were missing a ton of shots from underneath the basket that they normally make.

The ladies side of the Big Sky conference is extremely competitive. Watch out for SUU, they may have the most athletic front court in the Big Sky which is saying a lot considering the talent here.

I don't think that there will be any heavy favorites come tournament time. Lots of parity.

Recruiting - I am not sure the tentacles are reaching far enough to be honest. Part of the problem may be the high school coaches do not have the relationships with the colleges in the state that they used to. Many non teachers coaching these days in the high school ranks with a lot of turnover. Recruiting for both universities has become more difficult.

Copper....getting close to the truth. More could be said about the recruiting subject, but I'll leave that to someone else. Are we giving these ladies full ride scholarships?

Not sure about and how they split the scholarships Spanky, but I was informed the women have 15 (men get 12) full scholarships to offer. I believe D2 have 10 full rides and and NAIA (division 2 like Carroll) only get 6 full scholarships.

Thanks Copper....with 15 full ride scholarships, we should be able to improve our talent level. UM is a very good school, however, the downside is the Big Sky Conference and our schedule.

whats the reason behind the women getting 3 more full rides than the men? I can already hear the sexist comments ringing out if this was the other way around....just curious why they get more.

becker - I'm guessing title IX type stuff, since we don't have a bunch of "womens only" sports.
but 15 scolarships would have to be consistant with every D1 womens basketball program..right?

I think also some of the "issue" is just how Selvig recruits. The budget (if I'm remembering right) is miniscule, and to be honest, the womens game is moving away from a chess type game, and more to an athletic type game. That alone means there is less and less women to recruit the type of O the lady griz run. Plus, Robin seems to love recruiting the 5/10 - 6/1 "versatile" player that he just coaches up. For the last however many years, it's good enough to win the Big Sigh, and that has been good enough for fans. Pretty soon though (within 3/4 years) I'm guessing this strategy won't even work to win the big sigh anymore. The thing is, it's working for him, I just wonder how long it will continue to work, and just how long lady griz fans will be content with winning the big sigh, and then getting beat like a drum in the NCAA tourney.

Hmm, I honestly think it depends on the other sports the U has to offer, but I dunno for sure. It would make sense that it is that way, but we all know how the NCAA works. :D
