Washington transfer commits to Griz

News just out this afternoon that Donaven Dorsey, a 215 lb, 6'-7' forward from Lacey, Washington who was a sophomore this past season, will transfer to Montana.

The news is just out, but the Missoulian's Kyle Sample just tweeted that Dorsey averaged 9.3 minutes per game for the Huskies, scoring at an average of 3.8 ppg. He had 9 pts and 3 rebounds in Washington's win over the Griz last fall.

Dorsey is rated by the recruiting services as a 3.3 STAR player, garning a 4-star rating from Scout and 3-star ratings from ESPN and Rivals. He is reportedly an outstanding 3-point shooter and a good defender.

Dorsey will have to sit out this season.

YES!!!!

This is a good get for the GRIZ!

Welcome to GRIZ Nation, Donaven! Prepare to win Championships!!!

Great news for the Griz! Looks like he was pretty highly rated out of high school, being a 4 star on Scout, 3 on ESPN and 3 on Rivals as grizzlyjournal pointed out. VerbalCommits shows he had offers from Gonzaga, Oregon State, Portland State, Washington State and obviously Washington.

Here are a couple of his HS highlight videos.

So with the transfers eligible next season, and the guards/recruits, 2017-2018 may be a solid year for the Griz. NCAA upset year maybe?

As good as things look already with the addition of transfers Akoh and Dorsey, consider that Montana is still in the process to add two more (most likely) recruits to the roster for next year. Based on the level of recruits DeCuire has already added to the roster -- and judging by the list of offers on Verbal Recruits -- it'll be a team with considerable pure athletic talent. I noticed that early 2017 recruit Timmy Falls (who committed in Feb.) is now listed as a high-level 2-star talent (rated 69 on ESPN).

But I'm not going to overlook this year's team. Despite losing Martin Breunig, the Griz will be quicker, with more balance (and depth) at all positions. I'm confident they'll again wage battle for the Big Sky title.

Two more or three more recruits for 2017? Dunn, Gfeller, Lopez and Wright are seniors. As far as I know, Falls is the only 2017 recruit thus far. I assume Akoh and Dorsey will have scholarships this season even though they will have to sit out.

They will still have 3 scholarships to use for '17 right? Dorsey is transferring in this year so it shouldn't affect next years class. Dunn, Lopez, Wright, Gfeller graduate. Falls committed leaves 3 openings?

Either way it is a very exciting time to be a griz hoops fan! So impressed with coach DeCuire and staff!

No, they have four. Bryden leaving the team (transferred to Rocky) opens the scholarship for Dorsey.

Kyle, I count 14 schollies for the season starting this fall unless Dejong or someone else will be without a schollie. Any info on this? :thumb:

Absolutely...I really agree with this. I think my post really was meant to say that now the tough big and the athletic big would be in the picture, to add to depth and diversity of the team overall. This year will be a prequel if you will on how next years team will play in my opinion, perhaps with a bit less talent when you factor in these 2 transfers. Also, I really like Timmy Falls. Think he will be a real solid player for his 4/5 years in Missoula. Coach D is doing a great job with recruiting.
I'm very excited to move to the Boise area so I can make it to some football and basketball this year. Great time to be a Griz fan!

I was referring to the 3 that are unspoken for currently. 4 openings with 1 commit leaves 3 spots available for '17.

Coach was on record last year that DeJong would be on scholly for the 15-16 season and then off scholly this season.
