Was the targeting of Johnson intentional?

You asked, here it is...at least 10 worse hits and some so much worse it's not even close.....https://youtu.be/-jN-Klm6JMc

Hmmm, the only two I saw in that on the QB after the ball was thrown looked very similar. Interesting.

The body slam pile driver was far worse. Could’ve easily broke they guys neck with that hit, flip and slam.

I HATE that this one play basically ruined our season.
There are always plays that can ruin a season, but there is a lot of football left before I'm convinced this season is ruined.

What it DID do was make any path to Frisco much, much more difficult. A 10-1 Griz team with 3 home games is a whole different animal than an 8-3 Griz team that has to go on the road multiple times….and that’s true for ANY team, of course, but it was kind of the expectation going into the season and with Johnson healthy I’ve seen nothing that would change that mindset….

Sac State player(other than #46)ejected for targeting. Will somebody with some free time on their hands research how many targeting penalties against SS have happended this season. I'm thinking its coached. #46 against the Griz and Weber. Total bullshit. What has this Texas Longhorn transfer gotta do to get the conferences attention, kill someone?

I'm not sure I would call that one targeting, if I were making the rules. But it looked like targeting under the current rules. The guy could be penalized, but tossing it out of the game is a bit much.

Just FYI: The NCAA does not display data for individual penalties incurred, or penalty yardage accumulated. I can understand that, but also wonder if someone is actually keeping track (at least at the conference level). Really need to weed out the true bad actors.

The NCAA does keep track of penalty yards on a team basis.
The Griz are tied for 9th in penalties taken, with 38 penalties in 9 games (a bit over four per game). They rank #29 in Penalty Yards Per Game, at 43.7.

Sacramento State is tied for #73 in penalties taken, with 57 penalties in 9 games (over six per game). They are ranked #85 (bottom third) in Penalty Yards Per Game, with 61.1.

I have my own conclusions, but I'll leave it at that.

Never a doubt that it was intentional.
If they truly want to cut targeting then make the perp sit out two more games than the injured player has to.

We’d need at least 17 cameras for that. And a commissioner who gives so much as even one shit about something other than his bonus check. #bsc.

I still think the targeting team's equivalent player, in this case their starting QB, has to sit for the remainder of the game & as long as the targeted player is off the field, which could include the next game or even longer. This would definitely reduce the number of targeting calls. An eye for an eye. You take our QB out, yours is out, too.

YES! This thread is still going! Long live excuses!

The thread is about a very interesting and important play. It's what get discussed on sports message boards. It's not about excuses. Stop being a dick, or we will get the moderator to stop you.

Sit down teachers pet. This thread is a joke and I think a lot of eGris has moved on. You should do the same. If you really “played the game” you knew you couldn’t let circumstances keep you down. Each season Egris acts like they’re the only team with injuries.

Well, it is tackle football. Just because he made a shitty decision that led to an even shittier conclusion doesn't mean it was premeditated with the goal of concussing the guy and knocking him out of the game.

Did 46 intend to hit Johnson in the head with his (46's) head? Obviously, he did. Johnson didn't move or duck or get knocked partially down. I wish nothing but bad luck to 46. Dirty play and dirty player.

Might have to change your tune if he comes here. Bobby is recruiting him.

Doesn’t change my view of the hit or him. How is it know UM is recruiting him?

Well, not really. For me, at least. When he played for SAC, he was a dirty player. If he becomes a Griz, he's just a high motor guy who plays hard until the whistle. Easy to reconcile. First day here?
