OGDEN, Utah (Sept. 15, 2014) - The Big Sky Conference has selected the ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Conference Football Players of the Week for games played on Saturday, Sept. 13. Montana State quarterback Dakota Prukop is the Offensive Player of the Week. Montana defensive end Zack Wagenmann is the Defensive Player of the Week. Sacramento State kicker Brad Cornish is the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Wagenmann, a 6-3, 250-pound senior from Missoula, Mont., tallied three sacks and six total tackles in Montana's 28-20 home victory over South Dakota. The Buck Buchanan Award candidate led a defense that forced three turnovers, tallied four sacks, and held the Coyotes to three first-half points. Two of Wagenmann's sacks came on third down and ended potential scoring drives. Wagenmann has six sacks and 22 tackles through three games. This is Wagenmann's second career Player of the Week honor.

No surprise, but good to see nonetheless.

Great job Zack!! Imagine what he would have done in that game if they had not help him on almost every play.

Or if the refs would not have let that tackle hold him as often as he did. Wags had a huge game, a well deserved award.

They don't have a Mugging penalty in the NCAA rulebook, that's what the tackle was doing to Wags the rest of the time!

Wags has to be closing in on Tim Bush's total sack record. I believe he was somewhere in the neighborhood of 11 or 12 behind to start the season. Anyone care to confirm exactly where he's at? Anyway, if Zach stays healthy, I think the record is his for the taking.

He’s strong, he’s fast and he’s entering his senior season as a Montana Grizzly, poised to become one of the best pass rushers in Grizzly history. His two sacks on Saturday give him 22 for his career. The record is 32.5, held by Tim Bush. If Wagenmann continues at this pace, he’ll break the record by October.

So he's got 4 more now since this article, 1 from CWU and 3 from USD. That puts him at 26, and 7 sacks shy of setting the record.
