WA-Grizzly Stadium Master Plan

I talked to O'Day once a long time ago, between the "bat wings" and east side upper deck expansion. I think the next actual stadium upgrade will be 4-5 levels high of luxury suites on west side??

Suites and Press Boxes. Our current press boxes are so out dated ESPN laughs when they come here. There will be seating also 2-3 thousand maybe.

So basically the same amount of seating similar to the east side expansion. I wonder, with the Adams Center being so close behind the stadium, if that will affect how much the west side can be expanded. Thank God it's not like JMU where they have a building flush against the visitors side.

In addition to the future expansions, I think it would be cool to upgrade Griz Vision to a bigger screen. The current one has been around for a while now, and a bigger screen would be cool to have in WGS, IMO.

I would like to see a huge Griz football mural between Griz Vision and the West side suites to encapsulate the sound. I would envision basically a roadway billboard put in so people can still stand at the chain link fence and the crowd can easily view it.

The question remains how many luxury suites could be sold. The pressbox area needs attention sooner rather than later, albeit non-revenue generating.

As far as expanding seating when/if that becomes desirable, the logical move would be to just complete the eastside expansion as originally planned. The engineering is already done and as I recall it would add about 2500 seats. If there were sufficient demand to sell it out, that project would have a short payback period. However, ticket demand has not been increasing lately, so it's probably a long way off.

Along with new projects, will funding be also directed to current upkeep issues of WaGriz?

What was the rest of the east side expansion plan?

The east side expansion was originally supposed to be 4,000 seats but that was cut back to 2,000 seats. It shouldn't be too difficult to complete that expansion to the original plan.

I see, so basically just extending the sides out to the north and south im assuming. I would rather just see them strip the old west boxes off..put in one, maybe two rows of suites just like the ones they have at Lambeau Field...that would look awesome and be sound escalating.

Problem is people don't like to sit up there. I sat up there for a couple a seasons and now sit in NEZ132, which is awesome. The east side is easier for expansion, but expanding the west side has much more long-term value simply for the view of the M and hellgate canyon. I may be way off and maybe a lot of people love the eastside, but I won't ever sit over there. Regardless of demand, the U will always struggle to sell tickets in the east side expansion and adding 2,500 seats would be a huge mistake.

I'd like to see them mirror the east side expansion on the west side to "balance out" the stadium.

The only difference I would see between the two is that the press box / coaches booths / suites (if needed) would run the full length of the expanded second level. All the additional seating would be directly in front of the new boxes.

Something like this:

That would leave the south end zone open for a larger video scoreboard in the future.

If there was ever any need for addition seating, then they could extend the east side seating as was part of the original east-side expansion plan.

If money were no object (ha, ha, ha) they could tie in the second level of the expanded west side into the Adams Center and join it with the Sky Club as well as add in more coaches offices, etc.

Anyone have an extra $100 million lying around?

If anyone from eGriz wins that $1 billion prize for picking a perfect March Madness bracket, I fully expect there to be a large donation to the football program! :thumb:

I'd remove all current suites/boxes on the west side and start over. Be better to wait to 10 years, get the funds in order and do it right. Rather than hurry and half-ass it like they did with the east side.
