Wa-Griz Reaction from a Liberty Fan

First off, congratulations on the victory. You guys capitalized on our frequent mistakes. We knew to win in your house that couldn't happen. Alas ...

But I wanted to take a moment to say thanks for the incredible way the UM fans treated those of us who came into town to cheer on the Flames. Everywhere we went, it was tough to take even just a few steps without somebody stopping us to engage in conversation about our team. I came as a fan but I spent nearly a quarter century as a television sportscaster covering thousands of sporting events. And even for me, it caught me off-guard how unbelievably gracious everyone was before the game, in the stadium and afterwards. I have always loved Missoula for reasons that were not evident during the weekend due to the smoke. But Griz fans have earned new respect in my eyes after this weekend.

Now for your part, you guys come to Lynchburg in 2015. Start planning now and make the trip. It would be easy to combine the game in Lynchburg with a stay in D.C. just 3 hours north up the road. We have a pretty special gameday experience as well that sits among mountains not quite as majestic as yours. But it is extremely picturesque. I know it is 3 years out, but we'd love to have you guys make the trip like many of you did a week ago to Appy. We're about the same distance in travel.

Thanks again for having those of us from Liberty on the board the past week or so. We'll be watching you guys from afar the rest of the season and wishing the Griz nothing but the best the rest of the way.

Sly,

Glad to hear you were treated well and had a good experience. That's the way college football should be!

We will definitely be in the stands for the 2015 game!

Not surprised ... but very glad you were treated well. You've been a class visitor here on eGriz, and we appreciate that too. :thumb:

As for 2015 ... In the current state of college football, who the H*** knows what's going to be happening three years out? :? But hopefully FCS football will remain a bit more sane than those "other guys."

...from the guyz that tape off the tailgatez...
...to the sweeperz of the bleacherz...
...and every thing in between...
...the griz do it first class...
...it'z the way we roll...

... 8-) ...

Thanks much LIberty Fan, I for one plan to travel to Virginia. I love that area. Good luck the rest of your season.

I am glad we had a chance to play Liberty here in Missoula and showcase our stadium and fans. We wish the smoke would have cleared out so you could have seen the beauty of why we love Missoula. It only takes a few plays to turn a game around and were lucky to capitalize on them. Final stats were close and it could have been a different game without the turn overs. Please do not judge all our fans by a few on the board here, some have no class. Most just enjoy cheering a good game and a Griz win. See you at LIberty in 2015.

Got home to Lynchburg last night, and I have to echo what Sly said. I was blown away by the folks I met. We had a few Missoulians on the tv crew and they were so helpful, hard working, and fun. We walked through the tailgates and had some great conversations and good natured talk. I love the way all of your fans get into it. Great atmosphere and great fans. Also enjoyed meeting Griz filmer. Thanks for the pics. This LU team will get better soon and make some noise.

those turnovers changed the whole game. We moved the ball very well with the R-Fr QB and our defense was great. Just gotta kill the mistakes.

Loved the visit and hope to come back when I can have some free time.

Thanks Sly. Glad you were treated well and I am just sorry you did not get to enjoy the full assualt of the Griz faithful in the stands. It was kind of lame and the crowd really was gone when it was 24-0. Playoff football in Wa/Griz is a fun experience! Hope to make the return trip in '15 as I have never been to VA or D.C. Would be a great trip!

My daughter is living in that crazy town - D.C.

If she is still there in 2 years I just might make that long road trip.

Nice that you all had a positive experience here in Missoula. Wish the smoke wouldn't have hindered the views, but glad you were treated well! ;)

Liberty fans that made the game:

Thanks for making the trip to Missoula! I love when opposing fans make the financial and time effort required to follow their team. I truely hope you had a great time, and it sounds like ya's did. :D

As for your team, it is a talented bunch of kids. I especially loved Kevin Fogg the DB. He could play for anybody in the country, he is good!! You guys will win a lot of games going forward.

I thought your broadcast of the game was absolutely first class! The announcers voices and ability to keep the conversation flowing was top-notch. Extremely well down was my impression of the announcers. The broadcasters were very complinentary of their opponent (the Griz), which I appreciated. I liked the larger graphics on the bottom of the screen as well, they were easier to read than some networks. Great job all around by the FSN!

I loved #45. The collisions between him and Moore were worth the price of admission alone. He was about the ONLY guy who was able to bring Moore down single-handedly.

Perhaps his name is jcu27?

45's dad is one of our regular posters over on FlameFans. Nick Sigmon was injured very early in the season opener at Wake and didn't play at all vs. Norfolk State. If he had, I have a feeling we would have done a better job shutting down their run like we were doing against you guys.

Back to your game experience, we fully get that the crowd wasn't up to your typical standards. Most Griz fans I met had never even heard of us before. That's understandable. I've seen your games on television and know how raucous it can become inside the stadium. The enclosed dimensions really help with the noise factor. Our next phase is adding a second deck to the visitor side that should push our capacity to roughly the same as Wa-Griz or bigger by the time you guys come in 2015. But without the ends being enclosed, we have to generate considerably more racket to reach the volume levels you guys produce. That's a big thumbs up to whoever was responsible for the stadium design in Missoula.

As for your comments on the team, I agree 100%. And as a member of the TV crew that was there thank you! We had some folks from town on the TV crew and they were a great bunch of hard workers. What a great visit, but I wish I'd had some time to look around.

Um....we had over 200 yards rushing...is that considered "shutting down their run" in the Big South?
