It’s surprising that Hayden Diekhans didn’t get in the transfer portal - he most definitely would be a key player at the Big Sky Conference level.

I thought Rhett Reynolds spent a season or two at UM before transferring to Tech.Tech is full of MT kids that Travis and staff have zero interest in. They all have a chip on their shoulder and had something to prove tonight vs the California Griz roster.

As a redshirt freshmen played in 11 games, 19 minutes total. According to the griz roster at least. He did
Its 100k less than football, which they dont always use all of it. About a year or 2 ago there was information on how much Bobby spent vs Decuire and Decuire spent more money on recruiting than Bobby did. That fact alone is depressing. What do you think the mens recruiting budget is?
Last year's teamwork can largely be credited to the work of Brandon Whitney.Every team in the Big Sky missed Tech's 6-6 freshman from Bonners Ferry, Idaho - Asher Williams. He was Tech's top scorer with 20 points. Tech made 14 3 pointers for a .483 percentage (their season average is 35%).
It is interesting to note that Tech has lost 3 games on their home court, to Rocky Mountain by 11, to Carroll by 2, and Montana Western by 2.
Good thing that this year's Griz team isn't playing in the Frontier Conference.
It seemed to me that we put 5 players on the court while Tech put a team on the court. Everyone is waiting for Money to drive to the hoop.
I don't want to get too down on Travis. I think there is a bit of luck involved - last year's team brought chemistry, this year's team doesn't. It could be that with this group of players, there just isn't much that can be done about the lack of teamwork.
I am impressed with Connor Dick. He is gaining confidence with each game.
Hope they figure it out before conference play.
Exactly what I have been thinking. I just wanted to hear it from a UM perspective first.Last year's teamwork can largely be credited to the work of Brandon Whitney.
But buttt we Beat Pablow’s State and won the offensive rebound battle 8 for the mighty Griz vs 7 for the talented Pablow’s State…Oh Buildings Griz!….The glass is half full!!Our nonconference performance has been very disappointing other than UNLV. Even if we win The Big Sky and go to the Big Dance, we're probably a 15 or 16 seed--this loss to Tech is not only embarrassing but could really hurt us come tournament time !!!
While I hope that we can upset Louisville on the road, that is probably not realistic. !!!
Could even be a play in game…..IF we even win the skyBut buttt we Beat Pablow’s State and won the offensive rebound battle 8 for the mighty Griz vs 7 for the talented Pablow’s State…Oh Buildings Griz!….The glass is half full!!

Sorry it ain’t happening, unless you’re talking about a 6 seed in Boise…
The Missoula Loyola’s High school team last year, and the year before that would have given the current Griz varsity squad a nail-biter..
GO GRIZ!

Your first paragraph is the excuse thats creating the fatal error of the program. The fact not all will become impact players is obvious. Thats the beauty of a college program. You even it. Many said connor dick would never see minutes. He's creating significant value for himself this season on his defense, effort and intensity alone.Recruiting MT kids isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. You bring local kids into the program, but if they don’t make it, they can be a big distraction with everyone upset that they aren’t getting minutes.
Having said that, some of the all time Griz greats were Treasure State hoop stars i.e. Engellant, Fasting, Ryan Dick, Matt Kempfert, JR Camel, Don Wetzel, Larry Krystkowiak, Rob Hurley, Doug Selvig, Blaine Taylor, Mike Chavez, Russ Sheriff, Chris Spoja, etc…
At least there would be some interest brought into the program. As it stands there is little fan engagement. Also, Dick was the only kid who appeared to be embarrassed by the game and gave a solid effort. I’m not sure what happened to the program but there used to be pride in defending and there was never a doubt the effort would be there. Fan apathy is a problem, Montana kids can help with that.Recruiting MT kids isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. Winning always helps with fan apathy, non con and conference. At least there would be some interest brought into the program. As it stands there is little fan engagement.
