Vs. Southern Utah tonight

Even though the bulk of our scoring came from a few players, I feel like this was the first game where we didnt look lost offensively without Pridgett on the floor. That's a big step. I'm also glad to see Samuelson get into a good rhythm on the court. A few more games and I suspect Yagizhan will start to look more comfortable too.

On the flip side, we've done a good job at limiting turnovers and making free throws when we get them, but theyve almost cost us every conference game so far. In my opinion those are the areas we still need to improve the most.

I think the challenge is that they end up with smaller guys playing defense at the "3" and "4" positions. Last night started Samuelson, Pridgett, Falls, Manuel, Vasquez. Three 6'2"ish guys...one 6'4"ish and Samuelson 6'7". Didn't check the height of all the SUU guys but they had a thin 7 footer....Faucett, Butler and some bigger guards (Oluyatin 6'7"). Hard for Falls, Manuel or Vasquez to check a taller bigger guy on the boards every time.

I'm actually surprised at how well they rebound across the roster despite begin undersized at pretty much every position. Manuel had 6 last night, Pridgett 8, Samuelson surprisingly only 2.

Griz only outrebounded 35-28. Not bad considering coming into the game SUU was at the top and Griz at bottom of conference in rebounds per game.

This is somewhat a function of TDC's defense. With the way he likes his 3s and 4s (even 5s) to hedge -- often times outside the circle -- you have to be athletic. It's the rare talent like Bruenig or Fab who is big enough to post and rebound, but can also play that style of defense as aggressively as the GRIZ like to.
