Vs. Northern Colorado

68-59 final. UNC cut it to a 7 point lead, then Hasquet hit 2 FT's to end it. All-in-all a good win, despite the let down in the last few minutes. Think they said AJ had 18 or 19 points, another good game for him.

another typical AJ game.... he is such a great scorer..... I think its time everyone get off Hasquet's back.... yea he's not averagin 20 a game like he is capapble but he has been putting together some great all around games 13pts 7reb 4ast. today.... been doin that quite a bit and playing VERY unselfish as a senior..... great game jordan!! Solid win..... now keep it rollin and start closin teams out when we get up....

got back from the game.

AJ had another good game at the free throw line making 9 - 11. His free throws are the difference in the game. 18 points total.

Jordan had a good game. 13 points, only 1 a three pointer. Most shots from within 15 feet. Good game rebounding. Maybe he got it that he needs to spend some time closer to the basket. 4 for 7 inside the 3 point line.

Ceylon did ok for his first game. First time he came in the team stretch the lead out with AJ out. I think Ceylon spreads the ball around more than AJ. But AJ does penetrate to the basket better.

Overall, good game. Griz still need to maintain the intensity throughout the whole game. Both EWU and Northern Colorado had late runs to make it closer than it really was.

3,500+ fans showed up. Quiet though.

A very good 2nd half by Jordan :D . I love the play by AJ but Jordan would have been my player of the game. The Griz were tough inside and plain out-hustled N Colorado early in the game. Michael Taylor also played a real smart game and CET showed he definitely is going to help in the 2nd half of the season. A solid win. :)

A solid win, would have been a much larger victory had Sharp and Qvale converted more when they had a chance. Tinkle mentioned that too. They need to be ready to score now that they know the GRIZ are looking inside to them more. As for Hasquet, he had a great overall game. Why? Because he played within 15 feet of the basket. Good things happen in this offense when Hasquet and Selvig play w/in 15 feet of the hoop offensively. Both are good passers too.

For those that bash our defense, I do not understand it this year. Do we give up a few easy buckets? Sure we do, but all teams do. For the most part this defense is solid, keep the opponents shooting % low, rebound well (and getting better). The last 2 games we owned the boards. If this defense keeps PSU in check, that would be a huge plus. Defense is getting very close to being a staple for this year's GRIZ!

I think we still need to improve in every aspect. The biggest things are offensive consistency, and learning to put teams away when given the chance. I have a feeling the GRIZ will give PSU a fight next game. There is no way PSU rattles us the way they did in Game 1.

The key to beating PSU will be containing their perimeter players. They are deep and dangerous on the perimeter. I would get all the bodies on Dominguez and get physical with him. McGillis and whoever has to focus on Nelson, maybe even shadow him now and then too. Offensively we need to do 2 things. Attack Dominguez and use our bigs inside. PSU is quicker and more athletic than we are, so we have to use muscle and position to keep them from getting loose rebounds.

Mentally and physically we are much better than we were in game 1 with them. I honestly do not see us playing a worse game than we did before. CET's return will be a huge help on both ends of the court too. W or L, if we play well against PSU, it will be huge for this team's confidence. The GRIZ are almost over the hump! Can they do it? I think they can.

Well not a terrible game...but I believe that we could have crashed the boards a little better. There we quite a few times in the 2nd half where we got relaxed and lazy took the 1 pass then shoot 3 and 4 players heading back down court to defend before the ball hit the rim. One one of CETs free throws that he missed Jordan made no effort at all and then acted suprised when it did not go in. My point is, that we have not played a game at 100% effort all year and when we do, it will show. Hopefully Thursdays game with portland we will show up at 100% because i think thats what its going to take to beat them this year. Go Griz

What a horrible finish.....

They won, right? I've seen worse finishes in the last couple years.

Good win boys. Maybe we're on the up-swing. February is getting close, time to play our best ball.

I'm no Tinkle basher.... but he sure confuses me sometimes..... we jump on these guys early..... then he just pulls our starters except for AJ..... his in game personel moves just baffle me sometimes..... lets hope we just blow these guys out and the young guys can play the whole game..... but really... no continuity with the rotations.....hard for teams to mesh that way..... not tryin to bash the guy.... but he is just confusing me..... that being said.... the ball looks to FINALLY be goin in the hole early this game.............. GO GRIZ

I went to a high school game here in Benton Friday night where the same thing happened. We jumped up on the team early and then the coach outsmarted himself. Odd substitution after substituion and before you know it, we have a one quarter game where anything can happen. Benton ends up losing on a last minute shot to a team that they should have beat by 20.

I haven't seen the Griz play yet this year, so I don't know if this is the case, but the Benton coach outsmarted himself. I leaned to the guy next to me and said "I didn't think that 17 and 18 year old kids had a problem with excessive fatigue in a 32 minute game. I think a lot of coaches sub too much at the expense of chemistry. I have even seen coaches take out a guy that just hit 3 3 pointers in a row because that is their rotation. It seems that coaches don't feel the flow of a game anymore and they just script what they should do.

Again, I don't know if this is what is happening in Missoula, but I see more and more coaches do it.

It was a good win, and a win we really needed. My biggest concern was the transition defense. Seemed like they got back behind us a few times relatively easily.

But I will take it. Now home for a couple of very important games. Go get em.

As erratic as the offense has been this year, one thing that the coaches should be proud is the defense they have played. We can gripe and cry about the overall success of the team, but the reality is that they are playing really good defense.

Watching the game on the internet today, I was impressed how well they close out on shots and how they played team defense.

UM leads the conference in defense, i.e. holding opponents to fewest points. Defense measured by shooting percentage, UM is 2nd (by .01%).

Sharp and Qvale were 5-14 in shooting, missing some close but defended shots. Should and will make more of those shots.

CET has 1 assist and 1 turnover. Johnson had 1 assist and 4 turnovers.

Banks for UNC was very good around the basket.

UM was up 65-44 with 2:20 to go. Tinkle took responsibility for let-down at the end of the game, and said he shouldn't have subbed the way he did late in the game. While the end of the game was a bit ugly, there was no way the Griz were going to lose.

you probably led the Y league in airballs. Joking aside, Tinks manned up and said it was HIS fault the lead slipped at the end because he pulled the guys who were stomping on NC's throats to get some other guys minutes. And who the hell whould expect the 11th man for NC to hit 4 straight 3's. The NC coach called himself stupid, so go figure.
