My wife and I will be visiting Whitefish, MT Labor Day weekend. We are big time University of Alabama football fans ('03 and '08 grads) from Mobile AL and would love to experience a Montana football game. We are looking for two tickets and a place to tailgate and park. Does anyone know what time the game will kick off?

We are fun laid back fans just looking forward to a new experience. If any of you could help out two college football fans with parking, tailgate and ticket info we would be very appreciative.

Should we contact the Montana ticket office or scalp from fans outside the stadium. Also, will we have time to tour the campus before the game? We just want to experience as much as possible. Thanks!

:pics: of wife

We have our own small share of il-mannered knuckledragging troglydytes. Ignore this one...And have a great time in Missoula and the Flathead. Should be a great experience. And welcome :thumb:

Oh calm down crabby pants. Just giving the new guy a hard time.

I liked how you had to clarify that you were looking for pics of the WIFE.

It might be worth your time going to an App State fan site (wish I had the link now). Their fans can give you some unbiased feedback. Quite a friendly FBS rivalry we have with them, over the years.
The term "rivalry" is generally reserved for teams that have played more than twice.

Hard pressed to come up with another word for it, and rivalries are also reserved for teams that actually come close to evenly splitting the W's. So, technically does Montana even have "true" rivalry in the Big Sky conference?

I did not like the sounds of "Quite a friendly mutual admiration/respect with them, over the years. :thumb:

Palmetto08,

I strongly recommend you contact Janie as posted earlier in this thread. Alabama fans are second only to Griz fans as her favorites. You will also find that once you've attended a game at WA-Griz, you will be a Griz fan for life. It's a special place.

My wife is from Alabama and I'm from Montana. We Go Griz and Roll Tide in our home.

So, from me - Go Griz! Roll Tide.
From my wife - Roll Tide! Go Griz.

(and anything that deals with a cat - SUCKS!)

I would cancel your reservation in Whitefish and plan on spending that sat night in Missoula. Whitefish is a 2+ hr drive from Missoula and I promise you that you won't feel like making that drive after experiencing a Griz Game Day. As for lodging and parking, there are several motels near the stadium on East Broadway and you just park there and make the easy 5-10 minute walk across the footbridge into the tailgates and stadium. There are hundreds of great tailgate partys. Grzfnz's is a place to get exceptional grub and alot of eGrizzers hang out there also. Check this board in august as the game approaches but I certainly would recommend spending at least sat night in Missoula, and fri night as well as the nightlife on a fri night before a game is incredible in the previously mentioned places like Reds and Mo Club. While in Mo Club be sure to get a hot pepper cheeseburger. Before the game on sat morn the Press Box is very close to the stadium and have some wicked bloody Marys to help you recover from the previous night and they also have a great breakfast buffet. Don't leave Montana without experiencing Griz Gameday it truly is a wonderful experience and after 12 years of missing only 2 games it just never gets old.

Hike to the "M"
Stroll campus
Go to Rockin Rudy's
Live poker and 4th meal at the Ox

I would normally agree on #3, but RR's is pretty much full of suck anymore.
I hit RR a couple weeks ago and it was a huge disappointment. I had been telling my son (aspiring musician) how great the place was, walked in and saw a store full of greeting cards, jewlery, misc. Crap and a very small section of cd's. Thankfully we found out that all the vinyl albums had been moved to a separate store, where we ended up spending about an hour scouring the racks for treasures.

Myself, I'd strike RR's and stop at the Break for coffee, sweet goodies and some people watching.

That's what I get for moving from Missoula. It was cool back in the day :(
Maybe substitute it with a meal at Food for Thought.

WORD! No offense to the 'Fish, it is a very cool town! But, the only place to be on a fall saturday in Montana is at a Griz game in Missoula!

Oh, I agree, it used to be awesome. I LOVE cd/record shops, but they are getting so few and far between it's scary. I don't blame Rudy for going with what will actually keep the doors open though. A friend of mine almost started crying the last time he was there. It's still better than Cactus in Bozo. That place is a waste now.

Brains and eggs at the Oxford Hotel. :beef:

Oxford Hotel ?...It was more fun back in the "GOD's" when the ever colorful Shorty, putting in the order, simply said, "He needs em'"...

I don't think they have served brains for several years now since the mad cow scare and they banned all restaurants from serving them.

And the ticker tape machine up front next to a large blackboard where ball scores would be updated as the machine spit out play by play info.....quite a place back in the day.

The M&M in Butte used to do this as well. In fact the blackboard is still there.

Thanks again for all of the great feedback. Unfortunately we have already booked rooms in Whitefish so we'll be coming down for the day then driving back. We'll be sure to wear our Bama gear as we play Michigan that evening and looking forward to talking football with you guys. I'm hoping the Montana game will be played early. We'll make sure to look around town before heading to campus/stadium.

I'll get more specifics closer to game time. In the meantime, I hope you guys have a great spring/summer and thanks again for the hospitality.

And I sent Janie an email but haven't heard back.
