Good stuff, Royce has lots of praise for Kent, the committee, and how wide the search was.

Of course, Kent is going to do HIS bidding. I'd be praising him too.

meh, both he and engstrom leave me cold. once again um looks internally to hire a guy who's main qualifications appear to be his 'fun guy' personality and his familiarity with um. i thought they were looking for a 'new direction' type of change in leadership? also, i'm not a big fan of 'pick the guy most popular with the fans' approach. of course more people are going to support the guy they've met and interacted with over the other guys.

So you reviewed his resume? Know his work history? Sat in on his interview?

I don't get how someone can make these generalizations when they weren't part of the hiring process. Regardless of if he was most popular with the fans he was more popular due to his qualifications with the hiring committee and the UM president - which is where it counts.

yes and no. his qualifications were listed in this article: http://missoulian.com/news/local/internal-candidate-makes-case-for-um-athletic-director-post/article_682f30be-f31b-11e1-b2ef-0019bb2963f4.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the public part of the interviews were... made public. royce engstrom himself pointed out haslam's support by the locals (who knew him) was more than other candidates. the closest he's been to an a.d. position was associate ad for external operations. other candidates had actually been ad's.

i don't see how you can bag on my observations, because they are backed up by what has been put in print. also, when one writes 'it looks like um....', that means the person is speculating. anyway, i'm glad you don't have to do any extra sucking up to have an 'in' with the new ad. that must be a relief.

Put up or shut up!!
I have several close friends who are HUGE financial supporters of the UofM and the athletic dept, and every one said they had stopped all donations until the new AD was named and if it was not Kent it would be a huge disappointment. So for thoughs of you who dont know how hard Kent has worked to gain the respect of our biggest supporters, you might shut it. The goal should be to have a AD that wants to improve our program and with a jerk off like R.E at the helm we were not going to have the funds come from the university they would have to come from private individuals. So, several of our biggest supporters were not going to give money like they had, much less more, without Kent getting the job. If for no other reason than the fact that we will continue to see improvements made to our facilities, I am glad Kent is the man.
So for all of you make believers, Put up or SHUT UP! GO GRIZ

They might want to rethink that strategy. Kent is simply the mouthpiece now for RE. THATs why he was hired.

Something in my gut is telling me that this is probably the case and it has me more than a bit skittish about where we go from here.

Man Ordigger - I appreciate your comments and insight quite a bit on here... but that statement just strikes me as just... dumb. What specific indicator/statements gave you this opinion?

It's clear you don't know Haslam.

So I guess you would prefer a program without big donors.
