No one is happy to see happy to see VA on the sidelines, it hurts EWU's chances down the road and it diminishes any win a team has against EWU when he doesn't play
Adams was and is the best player in FCS this year. He is one of the all time greats, he broke the Big Sky touchdown record 6 games into his junior year. He was and is still on pace to break almost all of the Big Sky and FCS records next year, and not break them but smash them, even if he doesn't play the rest of this year. He is a special, special talent, probably one of the best EWU has ever had, maybe THE best, same goes for the Big Sky conference.
With that said, and no one is saying Adams wasn't a special player, EWU always seems to find a QB, so there is no reason to doubt the confidence in West. EWU's last 4 starting QB's, dating back over 10 years are Meyer, Nichols, Mitchell, and Adams. Two of them won the Peyton, one was on pace to win it this year and Nichols broke a ton of records during his tenure. Baldwin coached all of them, some as the OC and some as the HC, so Eastern anticipates West to do just as well, its expected, thats what Eastern has built. VA holds a ton of records, does a ton of things because of his talent, but the type of system Eastern runs puts a QB in position to do those things, Adams is special so he does them a lot better.
Eastern will adjust what they do on Offense to make West successful, but anyone counting out the Eags at this point is crazy. This team will rally around West and is still set to do great things.
Hopefully the Griz and Eastern will have a game with a healthy JJ and VA, but its going to be a great game no matter who plays, it always is...
