Vernon Adams gone 3-6 weeks

Will be interesting to see how West does. They were sure reluctant to put him in yesterday but my guess is Adams was doing the "I'm ok" thing and really hoping he actually was (ok)

I'm sure Vernon was telling them "I'm Ok" yet I watched a replay of the game last night. Lil shoota was hobbling BAD for about 1 1/2 quarters and was getting worse as the game went on. Although he could still play it was obvious he was not "OK". The coach should have pulled him.

Look, if Adams converts just one less third down on one drive in either of the MSU or ISU games, Eagles lose. I just don't see West converting third downs at the same rate as Adams. EWU's defense has to step up to add more third down stops or they are in trouble.

West and our offense isnt going to be the problem going forward, our Defense is. West has a big arm, will stay in the pocket more, but will definitely get the ball downfield to our receivers, I don't think anyone is worried about our backup. We will probably score a little less than what we have which means our D will have to get a couple more stops, and that is the problem moving forward...

Looks like we are on the same page here. I wouldn't expect the offense to drop off more than 7-10 ponits per game. If the defense improves by that margin Eagles will be fine.

This post is getting close to posts of certain Cat posters. "Our back-ups are better than our starters." There is no way EWU's offense doesn't have a huge drop off. This guy has barely been on the field. QB is more than having a big arm. It's decision-making, leadership, not making mistakes, and making big plays. EWU is fortunate not to have a bunch of tough games coming up, but, as Kem said, Ida. St. wasn't supposed to be tough either. I can't image that Adams won't be out for at least 6 weeks (if he has 2 broken bones), and upon his return, he is not going to be able to be his normal damn good big play-making self. I grossly underestimated Adams at the beginning of last year, but quickly became a believer.

Losing Adams will hurt EWU, and having Forte out for a couple more weeks as well just magnifies the loss of Adams.

I think Adams is probably out closer to 6 weeks than 3 too, which means we won't have him for the Griz game as well, but you never know.

The offense will have a drop off, but look at EWU, we always have a QB step in and play great, which is part of the system. Baldwin's system allows Eastern QB's to succeed. Adams is special and there is going to be a drop off, no one is saying there wont be, but its not the offense Eastern needs to worry about. West is going to be fine, he will put up numbers and if Eastern can find a way to win Saturday, they are going to be fine. We won't lose to UNC or UND at home, regardless of who is playing QB. The schedule sets up well in the coming weeks. Our receivers didn't magically disappear...

I think they will have a drop off in scoring, but I do not forsee it being significant. They had one of the best receiver coaches in FCS who worked with their current receiver core. These kids know how to go get the ball. Receiving isn't the whole game I know, but at Eastern, it is the biggest part. Throw the ball down field and go get it! It is that simple for them....

Bummer for sure. He's a great player. And, can someone explain to me why he only wears one "eye black" sticker? Does the sun only affect his one eye? Is he simply too cool to wear them under both eyes? Did he lose a bet? Maybe EWU can only afford 1? The mystery continues...

Like any good Shoota, he closes one eye while performing his craft. No need for eye black below a closed eye.

And Ewoo can't afford two.

One of the biggest things Adams gives EWU is the dual threat of throwing and running and the ability to scramble around the pocket to keep plays alive. West may have a big arm but the Eagles will lose a lot if defenses do not have to worry about him (West) breaking containment and running 20 yards on them or extending the play for 3 to 5 seconds scrambling around like Adams does. If West stays in the pocket he is going to get hit a lot which will effect him as the game goes on and the defensive secondary will not have to worry about covering guys for such long periods of time.

I hate to see any player get hurt. That said, I hate Eastern with a fiery passion. So I find myself torn this morning.

Actually lil shoota has one glass eye.
Though it is odd since he wears the eye black under the fake eye.

Hi haters :)

Don't worry Marce... PR may have played the game but he apparently doesn't understand the concept of reloading versus rebuilding, and he doesn't understand quality depth. He was spouting off about how bad the Bobcat offense was going to be since we lost our "Irish Lad" QB and the supporting cast of fellow super stars Bleskin and Kirk. We all know how that's turning out. Not only did we not take a step back, but our offense is SIGNIFICANTLY more potent and high powered this year.

PR is a douche poster that doesn't know jack shit, as obviously illustrated by the above post. EWU will definitely not see a significant drop off in talent. Just another blindly typed post by an ignorant egocentric griz homer.

Vernon Adams is incredible. Tough blow for him, and his team. I like competition, hope he returns asap.

However, and that's a big however, his back-up is talented. Earlier in the season, I saw EWU head coach Beau Baldwin call a time-out, insert this back-up QB (totally cold, no warm-up throws) for one play, the offensive call was a fade route into the right corner of the endzone. The back-up threw a perfect, pretty fade for a touchdown. That showed two things, the head coach confidence in his back-up, and it showed the talent in the "2nd stringer" QB.

If EWU loses in the future, it won't be because of their offense (with or without Vernon Adams), it will because of their defense.
