VERBAL FS/LS Caleb Mitchell

Video show him doing a lot of different things on the field

This kid brings a ST element to the table unlike anything I've seen. Not many dudes can long-snap that consistently, yet have the speed and athleticism to get down the field like a gunner. He could take away yard from the opposing team on every punt (.....that is, of course, IF we punt).

I'm not mistaken in thinking the same rules apply in the NCAA rule book in regards to covering up the snapper on a punt, am I? He will have to remain uncovered at the NCAA level, as well, right?! It may only provide a slight advantage, but on ST sometimes that's all the difference in the world.

I see him as a RS Freshman ST Great. Motor like Colt Anderson to get down the field on ST, I feel. Just a knack for getting to the ball and being there when the potential for a fumble or a pin inside the 5 is possible. This kid could be a dominant role player for us in the years to come. That's almost like saying "extremely average," but you know what I mean.

That's great. I don't ever recall the Griz specifically recruiting a long snapper. Welcome to UM, Caleb!

Quick Google search found this from 2010. I've found other sources that confirm this especially the 1 second rule.

Below are the new NFL Rule, NCAA Rule and Approved Rulings.
"
I. NFL Rule 7, Section 2, Article 2

Article 2 During a punt, field-goal attempt, or a Kick Try, a Team B player, who is within one yard of the line of scrimmage at the snap, must have his entire body outside the snapper’s shoulder pads.

Note: This restriction does not apply if a team does not present an apparent punt, field goal, or Kick Try formation, or if, after the offensive team has assumed a set position, there is a shift, or a player goes in motion.

II. NCAA Rule 9-1-2-o

When a team is in scrimmage kick formation, a defensive player may not initiate contact with the snapper until one second has elapsed after the snap (A.R. 9-1-2-XVIII-XX)."

Smart of Stitt to get a quality long snapper, something usually thought of as a position that can be adapted to by a center, no? Those who played the game will know this better than me, just a fan.

Good post, GrizGrad2010.

I haven't watched his highlight yet, but will after the presser.

I am guessing that the Griz won't be using WR Dalton Daum as a LS, but Dalton an All-State selection LS as well.

As was Colin Bingham.
