Van Vliet accused of assult.

So we agree, you are posting this as "fact" and Swilly is your main source of info?

Again, you can see that I asked if anyone else had information or if this situation was still being investigated.

I did not state that you are incorrect or accurate.

:msugrad:

No.
The reason I posted a link to the thread was so that you could make it quite clear what my take was. I have never said I think / hear that Eric has had his scholarship pulled. I have stated that a seperate source on egriz that has mentioned this as a possibllity. I tried to say that in my original post on Bobcatnation.com and further clarified it in follow up posts. For the record.

When this story broke a week or so back I had lunch with a Griz friend of mine (something we do quite often) and we discussed the matter. At that point it was his opinion that things were looking like that Eric was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that his friend was the aggressor in the situation. Eric might be in a little trouble but when things shook out he would be pretty much cleared. Then last Friday I once again had the oppertunity to sit down with my friend over some liquid refreshment. Among other things he said thing were taking a very seriuos turn in this manner. their were possible theft charges going to be added, and both Eric and his friend were both being implicated as gang up on this one kid. Furthermore he was hearing that the president office was taking a very keen interest in this matter and that he may step in to deal out his own punishment if these charges are proven. Thing were much more seriuos than what he orginally was lead to believe, and Eric scholarshipo as well as standing at UM were in trouble. This is what I know of the situation as of Friday.

Again I have reported that my sources say it has taken a very serious turn, but as of yet I have no confirmation that Eric has had his scholarship pulled. I was very careful to mention that someone on the griz board was reporting that he had Eric scholarship pulled. I made it quite clear that I could not confirm this (my exact words) That was my mistake admittadly. I should have known better than to quote an egriz source.(sarcazm) read the link above and please don't put words in my mouth.

Swilly I take it I said 6-10? I was measuring actually height with out shoes!!!! Not buying that sorry i did not look up his listed height.

Thanks for the link Mslacat. It kind of seems like Krysko is waiting to see what pans out in court before he hands out any discipline, which I think is a good idea.

If county atty decides to charge two college kids for burglary--because they went into the room of a friend of one of theirs, and punched him--this will be yet another sign of the decline of civilization, the ridiculousness of the legal system, and the stupidity of the county attorney. Isn't this the county atty who gave a press conference saying he was going to look into criminal charges involving the athletic dept. budget deficit, and then ended up with egg on his face. One would hope he's learned a lesson. Jeez, investigate and treat it for what it is. There are varying degrees of assault. Figure out the severity and treat it accordingly.

As an aside, do you think the kid who got punched may have done something to cause the other 2 to find him at that time of the night, and punch him? Might he have done something to them, or taken something from them, or said something about them?

Yeah I guess if I break into one of my friends apartments & punch them in the face it is ok because we are friends. Seriously Greenie/Grizzle lets not put down the whole legal system because a Grizzly hoops player may have to face the consequences of his actions.

Sorry but no one who broke into another person's apt is ever justified for punching the person who lives there. Doesn't matter what they said or took or think. There are better (and legal) ways to deal with the situation. Let's let due process run its course to convict and punish the guilty (if anyone is guilty in this case).

I hope this guy...Van Vliet has his day in court. Let the system determine his guilt or otherwise. But, given at least his UM BB status I doubt that justice will prevail if he were some ordinary smuck!!

As for the comments on his toughness, i.e. his ability to punch out someone and transferring that to court toughness, it is a stretch. From what I saw from watching him this year he has the mobility of a statue....no shooting ability when guarded, and questionable defense. Think he was recruited to be a 'space heater'...if this dude was not so large I do not think he would be here...

Overall getting really tired of the number of bad actors 'acting' out these days.

Thanks to the Kaimin link Mslacat. It appears that this case is still under investigation and decision on filing charges pending.

I doubt Van Vliet's BB status will make any difference to the County Attorney. I agree that punching someone out is no indicator of hoops ability of tenacity but I think it is way too early to assess Eric's ability for the reasons I stated in an earlier post. If Krysko recruited the guy, then he has some pretty solid big man potential.

Gwhiz,

I have to concur with your assessment of the situation. This type of stuff happens daily, the problem is no one gets on a message board within hours of it and has an online trial unless it involves an athlete.

At this point we should let the legal system, the coaches, and UM resolve it.

Are you Swilly? Man, I've suspected this for the longest time. I think maybe you are Swilly's alter ego; probably one of many. In which case, Sybil, I am so proud of you....

Actually he isnt me. We are two different people but we are good friends. He is alot gayer than me though....

FYI: to say he's gayer than you implies you are gay.
(not that there is anything wrong with that*in seinfeld voice)

EGRIZ
Id like to nominate GrizMania's post for post of the year 2006

Payton, you might not like this, because I'm an unabashed liberal: I second your motion! Hilarious!

you are now a minority!

the fact that greenie posts all his sycophantic bs and is taken seriously is much more of a sign of the decline of western civilization than any punch in the face between college students.

Grizfan10 didn't say the assault was ok, he, and rightfully so, said that he couldn't believe they would be charged with Burglary for it...which I was/am astonished when I read that ridiculous charge as well. What a crock!

arghoyle,

I give up, break out your crack pipe and have at it.

laughing my ass off, that's good stuff

oops, no, it's still there :moon: (not mooning anyone)

Actually, the "facts" you report do indicate a burglary occurred. Burglary occurs anytime a person enters another person's "home" without permission (e.g. the dorm room occupied by the kid that got smacked around) and commits another crime.

Don't blame the prosecutor, blame the legislature that enacted the statute defining the crime.

These athletes are adults and they committed a stupid act. Chances are they won't be incacerated if convicted and can have the crime expunged from their records after a certain period of time (assuming they learn their lessons and don't break the law during that certain area of time).
