Van Diest resigns from Carroll College today

Short mention on the Helena IR twitter page about this from last night, but nothing confirming or denying since then. AD Parker has been out of town until today, so I'm sure if something is going to happen we will hear about it this morning.

Is this legit? The only reason I could see for MVD to step down is something like a health issue, which I certainy hope isn't the case. There is ZERO chance he is going to be a finalist for UM A since he wasn't even an applicant.

A sudden resignation is usually health or scandal related. I hope I am wrong on both of these.

Petrino? Right. With Evel hanging out at the Mountain View Cemetery the state needs somebody new to do wheelies...

I talked to my daughter in Helena and she said he gathered the team and announced his heart just wasn't in it, allegedly.

Carroll college has confirmed to @IR_AmberKuehn that Coach Van Diest is resigning.

IF that's true, that shows a complete lack of respect for his players and his program. He decides NOW that his heart isn't "into it"? :shock:

Real odd... a coach that's been as successful as him at the NAIA level to just announce that? And the timing is what is really strange. I mean, if you're heart isn't in it now, it probably wasn't 3-6 months ago either, why not announce it then?
 
Sometimes, things occur in life that grab your attention and help you realize where your true priorities should be. Possibly may be the case here.
 
MVD was having thoughts of hanging it up earlier, but figured getting into the full swing this fall would get him back on track. It did not, and he felt it would hurt the program more if he stayed with his heart not entirely in it.
