Sometimes. But of course, the rules were somewhat different way, way back then. Though the NFL did have the likes of Johnny Unitas, Bart Starr, Sonny Jurgenson, Y.A. Tittle amongst whom I can remember. Running backs also meant a lot more way, way back then, as well. Jim Brown for one. Of course, I always thought that Gale Sayers was one of the best halfbacks that I've ever seen. Even compared to today's variety. But that was about twenty years before Archie Manning retired in 1982.Did they even have the forward pass back then?
