I hope the coaches use this game to further develop Vidlak and not just pound the rock for an easy win. Griz will not beat the cats or any other good teams by running the ball, they must stick to the passing attack they started with against Butler. Developing Vidlak is critical to the program. I can accept going to the running attack if the score is close in the second half but the passing game must be developed.

Agreed. I don't care if we beat them by 5 or 50. I'd much rather utilize the time to develop those that need time in the barrel. And rest assured, if we don't hang 60 on them the 'Scats will be all over it, but I really don't care.

But people make fun of Hoops all the time.

I don't mind 1950s comedy. It's important to study the comedy of yesteryear to know where we're going. The "Honey, make me a martini. Poof, you're a martini!" stuff is still useful when you want the team to get back to the fundamentals. You have to put on your shoulder pads and tie your cleats before you can run the fake reverse z post.

Makes a big difference to the player and the rest of the team if the coach is saying you earn your playing time. Go back and watch BH opening press conference. McDowell was announced as the starter at the game last week.

That may well end up being the case! But to my knowledge, Hauck has said that they're competing until someone claims the job. Is that not what he said? Or do you think he is just keeping them motivated while he has other plans?

Believe I saw that a few times on TV - kid has a leg

How many snaps at SS did Graves have? Any idea? Did he get all of the starter snaps? Did he start? Was my head in the clouds or did it seem like Meyer played most of the game at SS while Graves’ main focus was KR?

Also, did Lincoln start per the 2 deep? Thx.

Unfortunately Graves continues to be one of the most wasted talents on the team. Being a class B guy, I'm very excited for Ryder Meyer as he is also a class B guy like Graves. I just think Graves has been under developed by this less than adequate coaching staff. I'm no football expert, just a passionate fan. But I have talked to some higher level coaches like Bob Beers, who thinks the Griz screwed up when they took Graves out of the QB room. I had another tell me they should have left him in the receiver room. Kid seems to do whatever the Griz want him to do, and do it pretty well, but they don't give him much opportunity to succeed. I'm sure there are others who have had similar stories, I just follow the class B boys cheer them on.

Maybe so, but not from this fella. There are too many unknowns that need to be addressed and worked out...I mean let's be honest, it's WHY we schedule teams like this in the OOC...what did EWU find out getting their doors blown off by NDSU in the opening game? (Other than they're not very good)...

There is a variety of reasons why Meyer might be seeing more time than Graves. Guess we will just have to wait and see how week 2 plays out. Obviously Hauck and staff have a different opinion as well and think he can best serve the team as a Safety. Graves is a guy that will do his best no matter the position and will contribute to this team any way possible. Graves situation isn't unique among the annals. Most of you remember Mike Ralston and more recently, Justin Calhoun, Dareon Nash, and Cy Sirmon, among a number of others who switched positions to whatever was needed, some of them like Ralston and Sirmon, multiple times. These guys are about the team, and I would take a roster full of guys like this every.single.day.

I for one would welcome a real classic Bobby Hauck season where we look like shit for the first 5 weeks before everything gets rolling. Been way too much of the opposite, lately. :lol:

I see it differently than both of you.
Just because some think GG is not being used correctly in a particular position or way, doesn’t make it so. Maybe it’s what’s best for the team. Maximizing both GG and RM’s talents.
BH has always loved a good KR. Nobody will kick to Junior, so the team needs GG to focus there. He’s going to be getting a lot of kicks and I would guess possible touches on O.
Maybe the difference between GG and RM is not worth the risk of overuse on GG.
Just like Malik Flowers. People thought he was under utilized but he got a cup of coffee in the NFL because of his KR ability. GG has a very similar build and skill set.

In all seriousness though, how's that kid that transfered from UT tech to the griz doing? I saw he's 2nd on the depth chart. I was kind of figuring he'd be starting. And I know the year is young. I work with someone that is a friend of his family.

Worth also pointing out that our pass defense gave up 260 and is now facing an offense this week that's designed after June Jones's Hawai'i offenses. Not saying it was anyone in particular who was "responsible" for some of the bigger plays given up, however the rotating at positions at safety could suggest they're wanting to test out to see who best fits in the role.

I do agree on Graves though, not sure what the total deal is, guessing we'll see in the weeks ahead. I really like the way he plays, and he's become one of my favorite current guys on the team in all things. I've heard nothing but great stuff about him plus the way he's made his voice heard to support his teammates on and off the field has really impressed me.

I think the Trailblazers shock the world and beat the Griz at home. #1 and #11 will shred the lackluster Griz pass D, and I think UtahTech is better up front on both sides of the ball. Can’t wait to see the meltdown on egriz.
