USC Transfer QB Jake Jensen Commits

How do you know he can't run?
When has USC or BYU ever recruited a QB that can run? I'm sure he's a skilled guy or he wouldn't have been on those rosters
His stats from the JC don't show duel threat. Maybe Hauck will switch OC to Phoenice and the kid will lead the league. But he's doomed to failure under Pease.

That doesn't answer my question. How do you or anyone on the board know he can't run? My dad could run, in the single wing. He was recruited to BYU in 1934.

Man get off the board with stupid ego and take the time to watch the film on the dude like others have FCS. Questioning people about shit you know nothing about. Pathetic.

I didn't question anyone. I asked how people knew he couldn't run. I haven't seen any tape. Post it. If he can't run, do you think he includes tape of his running?

At his high school: "He also ran for 16 scores." He had 4 running TD's at his JC. Do 20 running TD's indicate that he can't run?

He ran for 105 yard on 64 carries in JC. That doesn't exactly scream duel threat. The kid can throw I'm certain of it but he's not going to be a run threat. Our offense will have to scheme around a statue.

I know what his JC stats were. How many were sacks and how much did he lose on the sacks? I looked up his stats long ago. And he scored 4 TD's, as I said. And scored 16 running TD's in high school. Let's see the tape of his running.

Are you fricken' kidding? He averaged 1.6 yards per carry in two years. Do you really need to see footage of lurch running the ball? He's a pocket passer without wheels. There is nothing wrong with that but we will not be running alot of RPO.

There are a number of ways (statistically) that a “running” QB can have a low YPC average.

1) sack stats automatically skew the yardage
2) kneeldowns in victory formation skew the yardage

KAY, for example, averaged just 2.78 YPC this season, despite being a better runner than Fife.

His JUCO stats were not bad at all. Plus the most important one of all….9-1 as a starter.

His HS stats were video game numbers
QB wins are not a stat.

His HS stats look remarkably normal. He averaged ~2500 yards, 20 TD's and 10 INT's each of his sophomore, junior, and senior year with a 56% completion percentage. Hardly what I would call video game numbers.

Agreed, but it would likely have to be CRYSTAL clear he's better. But spending time with Kliff Kingsbury and Reilly simply can NOT be a bad thing. Kliff is like the QB whisperer...hopefully some of that magic rubbed off.
I agree with you on the Kingsbury and Riley helping, but those guys also run drastically different offenses than what UM does. He's been taught/coached how to play in their system, how will he look in this one? Could be better, could be worse, but I wouldn't put too much emphasis on what his prior coaching will do for how he plays here.

Taking out the sacks, and loss yards, he ran the ball 53 times for 170 yards, which is a 3.2 average.

He ran a 5.09 40 coming out of HS.

Face it there is nothing fantastic about this kid in his career to this point. Looks more like a staff getting a bunch of "nos" from guys that would probably start and signing a future practice player that will get good grades and not get in trouble. They are still looking for QBs that were in style in the 90s, QBS that are pocket passes are a dying breed in NCAA. The plus 1 advantage is just too valuable to not have in your back pocket (see NDSU, SDSU, MSU and how many QB run plays they used in the semis). Cliff had it, just not the passing game to go with it.

A QB with significant loss of yardage because of sacks would be a strong indication they either have a slow release or struggle reading defenses or both.

You know a QB's job is to distribute the ball. Why do you place so much emphasis on running the ball? Thats what RBs are for
