Usage of a redshirt mid career?

Question for those in the know, would it be possible to have JJ redshirt this season to deal with all of the off the field crap? I know this is not ideal, but it might make a lot of people happy and be a really good thing for the university, the team and him. I don't understand how all this crap works, just a thought.

I would point you back to running back Lex Hilliard. He played 2003-2004-2005. He was injured and missed 2006. He played his fourth year in 2007.
