I just glanced at usa today and they had an article on their top 5 unknown players in the tourney and they listed Hasquet. I haven't seen this link yet so I thought i would post it.

actually they left off his aunt Karen Deden who was probably the best prep player to come out of montana in terms of national awards. She went to Washington though so it didn't really fit the article. I remember she is one of two people to have her picture and list of accomplishments at the Sentinel Gym.

I laughed at the line about pete being the shortest person in the pew. My wife went to church with the Deden family for years and said she remembers jordan being a big big toddler.

It is nice to see someone who actually does a little legwork to get a great story, unlike little Dana on Cold Pizza yesterday.

Shannon Cate was 1st Team All American, which is about as good as you can get besides National Player of the Year or NCAA MVP. Do you know what awards Deden won?

Karen was a high school All-American. I believe she's still in the top 3 all-time at Washington in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots (although I could be wrong on scoring). I know she's in their hall of fame. Not saying she was better than Shannon, but probably more highly-regarding out of HS.

I do remember that Montanans were PO'd that she went to UW, and treated her rather poorly when she returned to Dahlberg for games.

I don't remember exactly what however i do remember the list was really long. I was more referring to her high school accolaids. The main one that I found on line was that she was named to the USA today All-USA high school girls basketball team which basically means she was one of the five best high school players in the nation. I think she also made several other high school all america teams. She also played for USA basketball in international play and is in the UW HOF.

Lets just agree they were both incredible, although it is a landslide for Shannon on looks! I think a lot of the animosity you refer to was not necessarily the fact Deden went to UW, rather the stance her mother took on the Title IX issue. I think some thought that Mrs Deden made her daughter go to UW to punish MT because of the stance she was taking, even though I don't think that was a motive at all.

I agree they were both great players. My post was just meant to add to the story and show that Jordan has some increadible genetics going for him and should be a great one for us.

There was a time you could have made a lot of money out of a "calendar" of the Lady Griz team. Shannon, Jean McNulty (King), Lisa McLeod (Tinkle), etc.
