uptempo

When TD came on he told us of a up-tempo style of play he wanted to use. Do we have the players to do this?

I have been to more than a few games and I haven't seen this yet.

I know there a few of you out there who are pretty good about hoops, so what gives?

I believe the Griz are close. The best proof of that I can give is Montana's road win over Idaho State. There are a couple of reasons why that's not happening right now. Hesitate to go much farther with this.

An uptempo game must be kick-started with a perimeter potency that makes good on its promise. Early.

In other words... ya got to knock down your first 2-3 perimeter attempts every game.

And unfortunately that hasn't been happening...

The GRIZ play that kind of game the 2nd half of many games this season. Their problem is starting out. It seems like, it takes them 10 to 15 minutes to find their game. With the exception of the Idaho State and Davidson games, the 1st half has been a struggle for the GRIZ offensively. Meanwhile, without checking stats, it seems to me they have put up near 40 points in the 2nd half quite frequently this season.

As for personnel, I do believe Travis has to walk a fine line as to when to turn up the tempo full steam. We don't have much depth in the post. Weisner was out for close to a month, and probably a few weeks away from being the player he has shown to be. Kemp is still a mystery to all of us. Beyond Gregory, we don't get consistent scoring from any other guard. Bradshaw is coming around nicely of late. Dunn shows glimpses. Gfeller, really needs to expand his offensive game to do more than shoot 3's. The loss of Edmonds is huge. Without a doubt, he was the most versatile wing player, with the versatility to play 1,2,3/PG,SG,SF.

Next season, with DeJong and Boehning (sp?) being able to contribute will be huge for the program. I also believe Travis will land 1 more post player in the late recruiting period. I expect we will see the uptempo style now and then throughout this season. I don't expect it to be a staple for a year or 2 though. We just don't have the quality depth to do it throughout a whole season.

Part of it is the Big Sky teams the Griz have played so far, like to play more of a grinder type of style and don't want to play up tempo with a griz squad. Once you play teams like Sac, EWU, Idaho, and PSU you will find out a little bit more about the Griz uptempo style as those teams want to play that way too...

Sometimes it takes a couple years to get the players to buy in, or get the talents you need. I would say the Griz are way ahead of where I expected them at this point. Frustrating at times, but they will get there.
