Upset Guesses (Sept 28)

This week we have two ranked-versus-ranked matchups outside the Big Sky, so we have a good base. We also have a couple of games where the unranked underdog is at home against a ranked team, so that helps the odds of an upset.

After that, I had to pick some likely possibilities among the other games. And I could not resist the Nicholls game at Texas State. (All you Stitt haters can pile on.)

The last two are longer shots, where I’m calling the home team the “favorite.” But I’m thinking it might be time for Wofford to get back to form, and I’m always doubtful about Virginia Military. And who knows when Sam Houston and McNeese get together?

Interesting. Would not have expected to see the Maine - Villanova game as the leading vote-getter for an upset. While it's certainly possible, I do not see a high probability for even a good Maine team to go into Villanova and spoil their "undefeated" party. Still, teams do get complacent.

I almost never include Big Sky matchups. People tend to focus on that and ignore the other choices, whether or not there seems to be a credible chance of an upset. Besides, when it involves the Griz, the pinned "Predictions" thread provides a place for those opinions ... with the added nuance that you can guess the score.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread as a matter of interest. But in case you missed it, half of the selected games did turn out to be upsets. That's pretty amazing. Of course, the #1 vote-getter, Maine vs Villanova, didn't happen, but ... So what?
