First: Let's hear it (as usual) for Chris    , who -- when he sees a worthwhile idea -- just goes ahead and does it. He has already raised the number of options available for a poll to 15 -- enough to cover the whole Big Sky.

Anyway, as noted on the other thread, every BSC team is in action this week -- Thursday or Saturday. There's still time to collect opinions in this more streamlined way. The poll is aimed at potential upsets. If you want to talk blowouts, use the other thread, or start your own poll.

Edit: Okay, The original could have been set up better. As it now stands, if you say there will be an upset, it means the team on the left will win. (Sorry if the voter was trying for the joke of calling an MSU win an upset  .)

Interesting to see that someone finally picked San Diego over Cal Poly as a possible upset.

Cal Poly barely had a winning record (6-5) in the (now defunct) Great West and returns only 7 starters: 4 on offense, 3 on defense. They do have a senior QB, who threw for 1,235 yards and 9 TD (1 pick). He also ran for 646 yards (3.2 yards/carry) and 18 TD -- presumably a product of their funky (but effective) triple-option offense. But they lost their only thousand-yard rusher, and his backup only gained 385 yards.

Admittedly the Pioneer League is a weak sister in FCS, but San Diego did go 9-2 overall and were co-champs. They have 12 returning “starters”: 5 on offense, 6 on defense, and 1 experienced ST. They have a very experienced junior QB, who threw for 2,370 yards and 22 TD (13 picks) last year. They also return a junior RB who rushed for 1,149 yards and 12 TD (also had 20 receptions with 2 more TDs).

Not saying it’s going to happen, or even likely, but the elements are certainly there.

Watch out MSU! I recall the year Central Washington came in and only lost to the Griz by three. I think CW may have actually led at one point in that game. MSU will be heavily favored no doubt, and I expect them to win. DII's playing up against a nationally ranked opponent are always interesting, however, because the DII has nothing to lose, but everything to prove, while the DI program has everything to lose yet nothing to prove.

I like Eastern WA's chances against Idaho. I almost chose that one but didn't.

I went with Sac State instead because you rarely go wrong picking against New Mexico or New Mexico State regardless of the opponent.

+1....and with New Mexico State entering its swan song season with the WAC, I'm wondering about morale and motivation.

hard to choose just one... EWU game or Sac St
went with EWU
UM and MSU options screw up a good poll, imo

Don't disagree with the notion that including UM and MSU creates a "drag" on a poll, but the idea was to cover everybody. And since everyone is playing outside of conference, it just makes sense. (Besides, if you leave them off ... then another bunch of people bitch about that. Can't win.)

That's one of the reasons I leaned toward an upset of NMSU. That game, BTW, is scheduled on DirecTV channel 681, for those of you who have the Sports pak.

If anyone happens to be interested (unlikely, but you never know), FCS Towson vs Kent State will be showing on DirecTV channel 643 (5:00 MT, I think).
