Next weekend offers a blockbuster event that often doesn’t happen until late in the year: a #1 vs #2 matchup. We also have another ranked-vs-ranked game and a somewhat contrived “ranked” against ranked game. Should be a good day.

As usual in the past, the team on the left is the underdog that might pull off the upset.

You are allowed two choices, and you can change your vote later if you want to.

Official verification: Bobcats suck!

First: Discovered (the hard way) that you can't edit a post containing a poll (not, at least, in any findable way). The one choice is obviously "McNeese" ... but the system would not let me fix it. (I wasn't even sure if the system had posted the item.)

Not much to be said about the game in Fargo. Slight home field edge, but the Jacks’ look awfully good again.

In New Hampshire and Rhode Island, we have a game between two teams who tend to be wildly inconsistent. I have no good guess on how this one could go.

Because of their transition year, Delaware is in limbo. Meanwhile the Spiders are having a pretty good year, so I give them some chance of pulling off the upset at home.

The pollsters have been partial to Florida A&M all year, while totally ignoring Jackson State. Yet the Tigers actually lead the Rattlers in their division of the SWAC.

Abilene Christian has been another favorite of the pollsters. But two of Eastern Kentucky’s losses were to FBS opponents, and they did better against their one common opponent. And Ab Christian losing to North Alabama (3-5) is not exactly a recommendation

We’ve all been impressed by the success of Incarnate Word, but let’s not forget that the coach that made them strong got lured away. They’ve been successful since, but not nearly as dominant. One of the McNeese losses was to an FBS opponents, so this matchup is closer than the records might suggest.

The Stephen F. Austin at SE Louisiana game is interesting not because of rankings, but because of the race in the Southland Conference. SELA currently leads the conference, but – with four losses already – they almost certainly need to win out to get a playoff bid. Still, their record is better than it looks, with losses coming against two FBS and two ranked FCS opponents (including SDSU).

This event is more unusual than you might expect. According Haley, in the entire history of the FCS (1-AA), there have been only eight games where ranked #1 and #2 met. Of those, only two happened during the regular season … the others were in the National Championship game.

I am thinking the griz will have an upset stomich from the by week for eating and drinking to much.Let's hope they are back in shape to take on a nasty Northern Colorado team.

Bump for more votes ... and comments.
I’ll bite. I want UNH to rise again and maybe bring some prestige back to the Colonial (Coastal?) Conference. They have the facilities and some good history so maybe they can make a splash? So I picked them.

I voted for McNeese because if we make the playoffs and McNeese closes the season well then there is a chance we will see McDowell back in Missoula one last time.

I was talking about this at the Weber game with some friends before it all went to shit. Have we had a player come back in a situation like that? I can’t imagine how hard the crowd would be on him over the course of the game in a playoff environment.

Right now, the #1 vs #2 game is as tight as we expected. But we also saw two Top-10 teams go down ... both fairly decisively. Could the Griz move up two spots? Not impossible, we'll have to see. Also, one of my hunches paid off: As an FCS contender, Delaware had a habit of getting off to a great start, and then laying an egg about this time. I bet they would with my second pick, and they did.
