Another tough week to set up possible upsets. We have only three games that pit ranked teams against each other. And we again have a lot of games where ranked teams get creampuff opponents: Two winless, and six that have 3 or fewer wins. So to get enough, I picked games where the opponents at least had winning records (5-4, in every case). Unfortunately, in all but one of those, the ranked team is playing at home. That included Richmond (5-4) at #1 James Madison (9-0). Could be wrong, but I figure the Spiders have almost no chance at JMU. So, to get a seventh choice, I included the intriguing matchup between Youngstown State and Southern Illinois. Both are 4-5 overall (and 2-4 in the MVFC) so the loser has no chance for a winning season. Since SIU is at home, I took them as the “favorite.”

Underdog on the left, two choices allowed, and you can change your votes.

For the sake of helping the Griz when it comes playoff selection time we'd probably want to be cheering Elon, Citadel, and Chuck Southern... if they won that'd put Furman and UNH at no better than 7-4 to end the season and would knock Kennesaw out of the top 25.

Well stated.

I picked Charleston Southern over Kennesaw State. CSU has 4 losses on the year, 2 of them are to FBS schools (Mississippi State and Indiana). Their two FCS losses are to Elon (currently #7) and Monmouth (8-1 and ranked just outside the top 25). KSU will run the ball a bajillion times and try to control the clock, but CSU also has a formidable run attack and can do the same.

Also, it wasn't an option on your poll, but I'm going to predict a UC-Davis upset over #15 Southern Utah in a typical Big Sky Conference shootout. With the exception of their blowout loss to Weebs, the Aggies have played pretty well this year. Their 3 conference losses are to 3 ranked teams: WSU, EWU, and NAU. They dismantled Idaho State last week and I think they'll put 40+ up on SUU this week.

Numbers are very interesting at this point, with no clear consensus: 8, 9, 9, 10, 11 across the top. And only one voter thinks UT-Martin (at home) has a shot at Jacksonville State ... but then, I don't think they do either. :)

I dont think it matters since their conference gets one auto bid that will likely come from Kennesaw or Monmouth. Actually I hope Kennesaw wins so Citadel doesn't become part of the playoff conversation due to their strength of schedule.

Both K-State and Monmouth are 8-1, and 3-0 in conference. But offhand, I'd say Monmouth has played a somewhat tougher schedule. So the Chas Southern game at K-State should give us some gauge of how good/bad K-State is, compared to Monmouth. Monmouth struggled on the road at Chas Southern, but did come away with a win 23-20. FWIW, I do not see the Big South getting an at-large bid.

Charleston Southern is little better than a good intramural team. Citadel would be among the bottom tier of the Big Sky. Elon, for its very small size, is a surprise but I don't see them doing much. I hope that UM makes the playoffs and has to play Wofford...that is a sure win for UM barring a total meltdown which UM has been known to do...

I chose SD over UNDSU BUT I have my doubts. Hard to imagine a team from San Diego beating a team in Grand Forks in November. Those SD kids will be blown away with the self-buttering doorways and 1980's laser show in the Areola Dome. I want to change my vote to the T-buffs. :|

Seems like hope is out-doing reality now, with the most votes going to an upset of NDSU by South Dakota. I just do not see the Bison losing two in a row, especially since they're at home for the game.

SDSU barely gets by the Kittens, and then thumps UNDSU.

What does that mean? Simple. Another preseason national championship for the Kitties.

Not on the poll, but Mercer (4-5) currently leads #22 Western Carolina 35-33, with just under 3 min left. If that upset happens, it opens a spot -- which would give the Griz a a place to move up. (Don't know the time-out situation ... only have the ESPN summary.)

Well, the Mercer upset did happen, which helps the Griz, I think.

Other than that, it was not a great weekend for upsets. Among ranked teams, only #18 Elon lost in an upset ... and that was not good for the Griz because it puts New Hampshire 7-3 (like the Griz), while Elon is pretty sure to get a bid anyway.

The other upset possibility in the poll was YSU at SIU ... and Youngstown did win on the road, taking them to 5-5. They close at home against Missouri State, which should be a win for 6-5. Anyone want to put a lot of money against a bid for a 6-5 YSU team that closes with a three-game winning streak?
