Again, you have to dip fairly far down into the rankings to look for upsets. First reason: #3 MSU, #7 EWU, and #12 NAU are covered in the Big Sky poll. And then you find that the opponents for #5 ODU, #8 Lehigh, #9 Stony Brook, and #11 UNH have a combined record of 6-27. Not much scope for upsets there.

The App State-Georgia Southern game should be a fun one to watch. Any idea if it will be televised on ESPN 3?

Yeah, I'd like to be able to watch that game. Don't have ESPN3 though.
The game is listed on ESPN3. I'm thinking they might open up regional coverage later in the week. (Unlikely, but that has happened before.) For a fee (11 bucks for a month access), you can get live game video off the App State web site.

Just a reminder (as was done on the BSC poll): The team on the left is considered the "underdog" that might pull off an upset.

Nice to see lots of people support App State over Ga Southern -- whether or not that's realistic, given that GaSo is at home.

You can also bet that Wofford will be pulling hard for an App State win. Here are the top teams, with their conference records and remaining games.
Ga Southern (6-1) . . . App St, two non-conference
Wofford (5-1) . . . . . . Samford (3-3), Chatt, non-conference
App State (4-2) . . . . . Ga So, Furman (2-4)

If Ga Southern wins, and Wofford wins out (fairly likely), then both would have 7-1 conference records. But GS has the tie-breaker over Wofford, so they would get the auto-bid. (Don’t know how the SoCon does it, but the tie-breaker might also make Ga Southern the “official” conference champion rather than co-champion.)

So Wofford gets a huge leg up if Ga Southern loses. If they win out, then they are the sole champion, with the auto-bid. (If Wofford splits those two games, leaving them with a 6-2 conference record, things get very messy. For one thing, Wofford lost the head-to-head versus App State.)

If App St loses to Ga Southern do you think they still get in the playoffs? They would have 4 losses but one would have been to a BCS team I believe?

I really don't think any of these upsets will occur. But just for kicks & giggles, I picked Appy St and SE Louisiana. I think it's still a little too early to predict the full playoff picture...but I'm sure homefield would help us against any of the Southern teams.

And I want Sam Houston to go away due to the a$$ kicking they handed us last year.

And...I know NDSU whooped us two years ago, but the SHSU drubbing is fresher in my memory
I just hope we can 1st: Make it to the playoffs
and 2nd: Win more than one game in said playoffs so a few of you will back up off us!

Good question. I'd say they would still have a chance, but it could be pretty shaky. One of their losses was to FBS East Carolina (5-4). Trouble is, E-Car is just mediocre FBS, at best. If they lose to Ga So, ASU won't really have any "quality wins" on their resume. ( Unfortunately, their win over UM can't -- now -- be considered a quality win.)

If I was a Cat fan I'd want another go at them to pay back last year's loss.

IF we end up playing them at home I'd give us a chance against them. But on the road would be a tough game again. I don't remember all the specifics, but I know there weren't any hotel accommodations close to the stadium and the team had to get up at some ridiculous hour prior to the game...blah, blah, excuses. Not taking anything away from SHSU as they were really good last year. WTH, bring 'em on!
Sorry for derailing this thread btw

Surprise Prediction: W&M (2-6) at #11 New Hampshire (7-2)
I did not include this matchup in the poll because of the obvious mis-match in their records. But The Sports Network Preview see it differently: http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/...foot2/writers/infcshuddle_mcdonnell/index.htm

What to know: On paper, New Hampshire looks to have the easiest path to the CAA title as it faces 2-6 William & Mary this week, with a bye week in between a season-ending matchup with Towson. And both games are at home.

However, if any team has the edge over the Wildcats, it has to be the Tribe. Call it luck, or coincidence, or whatever you want, but coach Jimmye Laycock always seems to have something up his sleeve when he has faced UNH coach Sean McDonnell. W&M is the lone CAA team the Wildcats have not beaten in the Sean McDonnell era (0-9).

The Tribe have been a bit disappointing this season, but they have suffered two one-point defeats and two three-point defeats. Laycock's squad has been inconsistent at the quarterback position and, as a result, the Tribe rank 11th in the CAA in passing offense with just 164 yards per game.

In a 40-20 victory over Rhode Island last week, New Hampshire utilized signal- callers Sean Goldrich and Andy Valais, not only with snaps under center - but also in unique two-quarterback formations - which allowed for each player to be dangerous running and throwing the ball.

The Wildcats, who average 240 rushing yards per game, rank second in the CAA and are 11th in the FCS on the ground. Senior linebacker Matt Evans needs just eight tackles to become the program's all-time leader, a record held by Steve Doig (434 from 1978-81).

The 'Cats play well at home and are 23-2 at Cowell Stadium since Nov. 17, 2007. However, both of those defeats came against William & Mary in 2008 and 2010.

Prediction: William & Mary 28, New Hampshire 27
So: Will form hold, or "history" -- no wins by McDonnell's team versus W&M -- rule?
(TSN is predicting a 5-point win for Ga Southern over ASU, BTW.)

No top-level upsets yet. #8 Lehigh barely hung on to beat bottom-feeder Holy Cross (1-8) by just 1 point.

Trouble at the bottom, however: #18 Tenn State is losing to unranked Murray State, 49-28, with about 3 min left. #20 Albany is getting crushed by Wagner 30-0. #19 Towson and #23 Delaware are in OT.

Almost half time: App State leads Ga Southern 24-21, but GS is in easy FG range with 4 sec left. Hot damn! FG blocked ... ASU leads at half time.
