One top-ten team -- #4 Old dominion -- is idle this weekend. Two top ten teams are included in the Big Sky poll, so I dipped down to #13. And, in case you missed it, it’s not a mis-print ... the TSN poll had two teams tied at #9. As in the Big Sky, I do not see any prime candidates for an upset. (But that's why you play the games, isn't it? )

Tough choice ... because all but one of the picks makes you choose against a pretty good team when they're playing at home. Not a good situation for an upset.

James M. leads Towson 6-3 at the half. Neither team has done much offensively: Towson has 123 yards of total offense, JMU all of 107.

Youngstown and ND State tied (7-7) half way thru Q1, while Furman now leads Wofford 14-7 with less than a minute left in the half. Lehigh is beating up on Columbia (as expected).

I've got Towson and JMU on the TV and North Dakota State and Youngstown State on ESPN3...so far some pretty hard nosed football...the Bison are just plain good in every respect, up 14 -7 at the moment.

edit -- NDSU pick 6 (about 97 yards) to go up 21 - 7

We look in now and then on the Towson-JMU games, but "hard nosed" also translates to "boring" if you don't really care about either team. :)

(Edit: Much more fun to watch Navy and AF go into OT.)

Not a good day for the underdogs. But the one exception could be important: #9 (poll tied) Illinois State getting shut out at home to an unranked team will certainly hurt them in the next poll. Be interesting to see if So. Illinois (now 3-3, like the Griz) will be ranked.

Only the one upset among the top ten -- So Illinois over #9 Illinois State. Obviously the loss by #3 Youngstown State was no upset, but the way they got demolished was a bit of a surprise.

Including Towson losing a squeaker to JMU, there were four losses among lower-ranked teams. That might leave enough room for the Griz to sneak back into the rankings, but I am not optimistic. Doesn't help that five ranked teams had a bye week. Be interesting, though, to see if 1-4 No Iowa (which was among the teams that did not play) stays in.
