Upon Further Review - A Look Back At The Cal Poly Game

Your d coordinator held a good Cal Poly team in check the entire game. The offense sucked throughout that's what cost you the game...

Your offense plays better and you don't have to worry about a FG at the end of the game to beat you. This loss is on your head coach and QB and I'm guessing they'd both agree

How dare you criticize BG and Stitt(the offense in general), especially on sugar-coat central. BG owned up to his short comings during the post game interview session. Don't recall Stitt taking any responsibility, though.

After watching the game in person on Saturday and then re-watching the replay over the weekend, I didn't realize how much the officiating impacted the outcome of the Cal Poly game.

I tried to use Vine to illustrate what I was seeing because words alone don't do it justice. Especially the missed holding call on the final play before the game winning field goal.

I can't get the videos to display here though, so please give it read and let me know what you think:

Please. Holding could be called on almost every play. The officials did not cost us the game, our D-coordinator did.

This game reminds me of the CP/UM game two years ago in Missoula, only in reverse. Cal Poly had held Montana's offense in check for most of the game, but with the game on the line they let Montana drive the length of the field to tie the game with 12 seconds left. Montana then went on to win it in OT.

From the blog, I can't believe everyone hasn't seen the real problem. Cal Poly were able to offer the refs more money than Montana. Clearly seen by all the blown call against Montana and none against Cal Poly.

Time to have a fund me account set up for the Liberty game.

In all seriousness, the refs miss calls on both sides, and most times what fans think is holding isn't. It might make us feel good to complain about the refs, when in reality it only makes us bad sports.

Anyone else surprised a holding penalty wasn't called on the final play before the FG?

To me thats a questionable holding call. I think most Dlineman get that call, most safeties wont tho...love your new site tho. Nice Work :thumb:

You need to read up on the rules, you are ignorant about what is and what is not holding. Player is right again, you do not know the game.

I know what the freaking rules are...I'm saying that a ref is more likely to give the call to a DLineman than to a safety. Its just how the game goes. Though I dont expect you to know that from the post you write. In fact I often wonder if you've ever witnessed a football game from the garbage that spews from your mouth.

I have seen no mention of the reffing mistake that nearly had me fit to be tied (granted I generally don't come back here for a few days after losses to let the steam blow off -- and let my own personal wounds heal -- so I might have missed it). On CP's drive down to the 7, the Griz sack Brown for a 2 yard loss to the 9 but the refs spot the ball back on the 7. Fortunately the Griz stop CP on the 4th down attempt. It is still one of the most obvious mistakes I have ever seen. (and no this wasn't a forward progress deal; Brown was stopped dead going sideways for a two yard loss).

That wasn't the play where they pitched it and the RB dropped it and the refs called it an incomplete pass, was it?

Hmm, don't think so but I suppose I will need to go back and take another look. I'll report back.

From the box score:

3rd and 2 at UM07 Chris Brown rush for no gain to the UM7 (K. Van Ackeren;Yamen Sanders).

It was not a "no gain", it was a two yard loss. Unfortunately in my grief I flushed the recording down the turlet so I have no video evidence but perhaps someone else will corroborate. This was on the CP drive that started at 13:09 in the 4th. Of course as I said it didn't really matter since the D stuffed CP on the 4th down.
