Upcoming Young Coaches......???

Since we're talking about re-runs...I wonder if ol' Smokin' Joe would leave the Yotes for a return trip to Missoula?

I'd love to get Pflugrad back. Probably won't happen though. Just read this column he writes for Washington State now where he coached for a while. Tell me this guy doesn't know a thing or two about football, coaching, planning, scheming, and preparation. Please come back!

Speaking of young coaches or potential coaches, I have a few former GRIZ to mention. Would any of these guys be interested in position coaching positions, Shann Schillinger, Tuff Harris, Marc Mariani (providing he does not get another NFL offer), Cole Bergquist (he is probably making better money in Real Estate already), Ryan Bagley, Colin Dow, Levi Horn, JD Quinn, any other younger former GRIZ?

I like that Bienemann is a grad assistant. I think he will do well in coaching as well.

I'd like to see what kind of interest Andy Thompson would have coming here as our DC or possible HC? I really like the job he has done at NAU.

Of all the guys mentioned only two (Thompson and Bienemann) are actually 'coaches'. The others are all ex-players with no coaching experience.

Joe Moglia from Coastal Carolina. Former CEO of TD Ameritrade whose team came into sub-zero weather and defeated the Griz in Missoula last year. The Chanticleers are currently rated No. 3 in the FCS poll. The Montana lifestyle, Griz facilities and tradition may be attractive enough for someone not focused on dollars.

If you have time, read the great article from ESPN on him.

The Griz need an innovative and creative head coach.

WOW, that was a great read. Loved the insight from a coaching view point. He did touch on the importance of slant patterns. Slants should be a staple in every offense. Robin hit the nail on the head, run it until they stop it!!!! This is the biggest frustration I have with our current play calling. We very seldom utilize this very easy route in our offense. When we do use it consistently, it works well.

Thanks for sharing that. :thumb:

Hunter Hughes DC CSU Pueblo
Aaron Best OC EWU
Mike Adams DC S. Carolina State
Mike Valoravich OC Henderson State
Charlie Flohr OC NW Missouri State
AJ Blazek offense W. Illinois
Andy Thompson DC NAU

Lance Leipold - Wisconsin White Water

What about Ian Shoemaker from Central Washignton? He seems like a young up and coming coach. Has good ties to the state of WA but also has some stops in the Midwest.

Not sure if he'd ever leave Kill especially for a FCS position but I like Tracy Claeys, Minnesota's DC. Won at every level with Kill and took over as acting HC last year when Kill dealt with epilepsy.

Yup. would at least be worth a look.

The answer is obvious, PR. Not young but the best football mind ever. If you don't believe me just ask him.
