Best thing about the smaller crowd is that for the most part it's the rowdy ones that go. A lot of the more fairweather, sit the whole game, don't even clap or yell when the opposing team is lining up kind of people stay at home.

Some of the craziest games I recall were the ones where there were 17,000 - 19,000 people there and most all were there to go nuts the whole game. Not just sit and watch.

No, I won't. I've spent enough time out in the cold when I had to. I'm not stupid enough to do it willingly for a football game. Not at +17 w/ wind chill -1. No way. Even the players & coaches will keep warm on the sidelines. They're not stupid. :ugeek:

Look. Let's face some reality. Let's stop pretending that this is 50 degrees on a nice Oct. fall day. Let's stop pretending that 17 above is some kind of advantage. Our guys are going to be affected by the cold as much as CC. So, the game becomes a series of fumbles, an accidental mess? What kind of football is that?

Stop this "tough guy" shit. Kryst, the concern is for schoolchildren out waiting for a bus! So, you "tough guys" are going to willingly put yourselves in the same place that even a schoolkid knows is dangerous? Where're your heads? It's downright stupid to sit 3 hrs. in predicted +17 weather w/ a wind chill of -1.

The cold is going to affect everyone & of course the space heaters will be blazing on the sidelines, Griz players, as well. If the Griz plan to play in Dec., and want to play in Missoula, and want a decent turnout, WaGriz should have a dome. Pure & simple. Get real. Even the Bison have a domed stadium. Are they pussy cats?

Otherwise, hold Griz playoff games further south. I would be surprised if attendance reaches 15K, let alone 20K. Geezus! Sometimes the idiocy on this board is beyond belief. :o

I think we've faired pretty well in December homes games without a dome. Like Brint said, we dont need a sell out to have an intense crowd. NDSU can keep their dome, football is meant to be played outside.

From the days of Valley Forge to Chosin Reservoir, Americans have battled the elements and their opponents and WON. How can you call yourself an American and a Griz fan unless you are willing to host a tailgate while wearing shorts and drinking ice cold beer, then going into the stadium and cheering for the team? Temperature? It's all just a state of mind. And alcohol. and if you don't mind, I'll have another drink.

Go Griz.

So people who are going are stupid?? go F**k yourself!! I don't need a lecture from some douche bag that is going to sit home....your choice is to sit home and call yourself a fan and my choice is to go to the game and be a fan! We've had cold games for years, if you don't want to go fine but no need blasting people who are either willing to go or just plain want to go.

Black the game out locally!!! :D

If that's the case, why are there so many domed football stadiums, including the pros? You guys are so locked into some kind of traditional thinking that you willingly freeze your arses, just to show how "manly" you are. Don't worry. The players & coaches on both sidelines are going to keep toasty warm while you freeze in the stands. Get real.

Grizzoola, how long have you been a Griz fan? I'm just curious, because you've always been o this kick about the cold and domes. I just don't understand why any Griz fan above the age of 10, would have any issue with the Griz playing outside?? It's the way it's always been. Montana has NEVER had a dome and has never considered putting a roof on Wash-Griz. Ever. I don't get it.

Another question for you: Since you say it's stupid for fans to go to Saturday's game, do you think like the CC QB's dad? Do you think the game should be cancelled or postponed?

I've been a fan since 1956. Of course, back then & until WaGriz, no one worried about playing in Dec.

"We've always done it this way." Poor excuse. That UM has never had a dome doesn't mean it shouldn't have one. All I'm saying is that football has flourished, not despite domes, but because of domes.

And, yes, I agree the game should be postponed (not canceled). It could well be the weather the following Sat. will be warmer. (You can never tell MT weather.) It's insane this day & age to play football outdoors in these conditions. You disagree, ok. Perhaps I should have said "foolish" instead of "stupid." Sorry to have offended.

You have your druthers, I have mine. Peace. GO GRIZZZ!!!

And why are the Vikings leaving the Metrodome and moving into a new outdoor stadium?

It isn't about MY druthers, Grizzoola. It wouldn't bother me one bit if Saturday's forecast was calling for a high of 50 degrees with sunshine and balmy chinook winds. But to stay Montana should have a domed stadium is insane. The school can't even build a modern-day adequate lockerroom and weight room for the players who bust their effing asses, give their blood sweat and tears for up to five years for this program, but it should find the money to put a friggin roof and a multi-million dollar climate control system on what is already the best FCS facility for fans in this entire country? Please tell me you're joking.

This a very entertaining discussion. Postpone a Griz Football Game because it's going to be 5 degrees and sunny   If coastal carolina doesn't want to play then don't get on the plane. This is the schedule it can't be postponed. Good grief......is it Saturday yet?
Go Griz!!

Oh, CC will be here w/ bells on & keeping just as warm as the Griz on the sidelines. You talk about tough. It's the Chanticleers that will show their toughness. GO GRIZZZ!!!

This kind of gets to me! I really don't care if people feel they would rather not go to the game, for what ever reason. But to basically insult the fans that are actually going out and supporting the team is a different story. And before you tell me you weren't insulting anybody...yes you were! Maybe you should work on choosing your words a bit more carefully on this message board. Myself? I'll be there and I'm bringing 2 from Boise, 1 from California and 1 from Nebraska with me.

Well, that's what I suspect. No money. Like everything else in Missoula & MT. No, I'm not joking, but you've injected some reality: no money.

All I'm going to say is, while you're in the stands freezing your butts, the players & coaches will be toasty warm. If you think your support is because you share the p/c's misery, you're sadly mistaken. Ok. Go ahead turn out. I don't discourage that. But don't come on here bragging about how you're going to wear shorts, etc., to support the Griz in that kind of weather. At some point, either you, your wife, or girlfriend, will put a blanket over your legs.

Football players & coaches aren't foolish. Why should you be? I'm glad you guys are pumped. (I don't think there will be many wives/girlfriends & kids out there.) I'm just curious how many of you will be in your seats for 2d half kickoff, since you aren't in warm weather, anyway.

I don't think true football players/coaches need a lot of fans in the stands, anyway. Witness EWU. If UM can't provide a dome for WaGriz, Dec. playoff games should be scheduled for a warmer climate. Griz fans travel extremely well. How about Sam Boyd Stadium in Vegas? ;)

My wife will be right there with me in the NEZ through the whole thing cheering for the Griz.

First off Zoola, I've stood on the sidelines for many Dec. playoff games, and the coaches sure as hell don't stand back by the heaters staying warm and toasty while the game is going on. They are doing their jobs during the game, in the freezing cold. Do they have layers and heavy coats and hand and foot warmers? Yes? But the fans have those same options. And I won't wear shorts to the game, but my wife and I have never taken a blanket to Wash-Griz in our lives and we won't start now.

Dude, you gotta let the dome thing go. I'll bet you any thing you want, that even if someone called and offered to donate every penny they had to build a dome around and over Wash-Griz, the U would say no thanks. But don't take my word for it, ask Kent Haslam, ask Jim O'Day, ask Don Read. They'll tell you what I just told you. Ask your favorite coach in the entire world, Bobby Hauck if he thinks there should be a dome at Wash-Griz. Ask 99.9 percent of the fan base.

Many of the enduring iconic images of football in this country come from extreme weather conditions.

The Ice Bowl from 1967.

The Tuck Rule game in 2000.

For the Griz, the App State game in 2009.

The NFL has in the past purposely set New England games late in the season and in the playoffs for the late start hoping for the iconic night game with snowstorm images that sell.
